TYG 2 - sorry tony jaa u are slowly fizzling out

TYG 2 - another worst movie from Tony jaa .. whole movie they go on fighting , but neither stunts nor plot is good .... Dont know what happened to Tony Jaa, the man who was touted to become the next jackie chan - onga bak 2, ong bak 3, TYG 2 .... continous craps ..

BGM was some loud rash music nothing more and the plot itself was boring ...

the only good thing was a fight in the railway track and rooftop

overall TYG 2 is another big disappointment for tony jaa and martial arts movie fans

looks like for now there wont be anybody else after jackie chan to carry on the legacy .

Sad to hear. I'm really looking forward to seeing this so all this negative feedback is disappointing.

Jaa has the skill he just needs some solid direction in the vein of the first Ong Bak and TYG.

reply

There were only a handful of martial arts movies that came out in 2013, so there's not much to compare. Show some respect Tony Jaa is a legend. Far more experienced than what's out there today.

He just needs to go back to originality and getting a better director. If he had Gareth Evans (The Raid), for example you wouldn't be able to make such a post.

Ong Bak 2 and 3 are genius.

I see movies.

reply

Ong Bak 2 and 3 are garbage. Ong Bak and The Protector 1 are classics. Tony is losing his touch. The only way he can redeem himself is in the upcoming F&F 7 movie. Scott Adkins is the only one that had impressed me. Donnie disappointed me with special ID and Tony wants to play with CGI when it's not necessary in The Protector 2. Shame.

reply

I agree about Yen and the unnecessary CGI. But the finale in Ong Bak 2 is unrivaled and I doubt we'll ever see Atkins get to that ability - physically or from a director's seat - anytime.

The problem with TYG is the movie was shot nearly 3 years ago! That's out of date by any comparison - acting, ability, choreography, etc - so I'm not holding my breath.

I see movies.

reply

I see your point with TYG 2.

Ong Bak 2 wasn't the worse thing in the world, I mean it had a lot of impressive fighting scenes. The story was pretty bad, and it just got weird in a lot of other parts. Ong Bak 3 was very bad. Lol

reply

Totally agree. I finally got the opportunity to see this yesterday. I was sooooo looking forward to it: Ong Bak is one of my all time favourite martial arts movie.
Within 20 minutes I was checking my watch and seriously considering walking out. It really is that bad.
Tony Jaa seems to have packed on quite a few pounds and is noticeably slower in everything he does in this movie. Actions he made look effortless in Ong Bak or TYG1 he really seems to struggle to do now.
The story made absolutely no sense; a huge convoluted pile of nonsense. The movie is full of truly terrible, dreadful, cgi and the finale is simply awful.
Oh, and the acting, especially by the Western actors, was painful. Be warned: if you're Jewish, Muslim or vegetarian, there is an immense amount of ham on screen.
A 1 star movie for me. Not even so bad it's worth watching. Just bad.

reply

Extremely bad movie, poor story line and mis direction. There was no need to add CGI.

reply

Well I watched it and despite all the negative reviews I still went in with an open mind.

Sadly, it is as bad as everyone is saying. This is not Tony's triumphant return. That ending scene involving RZA was one the worst scenes I've seen in ANY film. Wow...those horrible CGI flames. Ugh.

I wish Tony nothing but the best in the future though.

reply

This is the first film of his that I didn't think much of.. OB1 and TYG1 are obviously classics and 2 of the best from the 2000's(even if there wasn't much from this decade as far as Asia goes)

Seems the quality of film has just dropped, far too much story, rinse and repeat poor story lines, it worked the first few times now it's just tired.. and then there's RZA.. I'm a Wu & RZA fan of his stuff from the 90s so I know his love for Martial Arts but just stop, cringeworthy in MWTIF and this.

reply

the man who was touted to become the next jackie chan

If you look around on his board here, you will read that there were lots of problems with the companies he worked with. He was even short of quitting movies all together.

I'm happy for him that things seem to get better. Tony is in the next Fast and Furious, and the old contacts don't have anything todo with that. I hope he plays in all three planned films.

Having watched this, Tony Jaa still has the skill, it's just he keeps doing these awful movies. This one in particular was really bad as their comically bad cg and greenscreen(Which looked like something out of a tv show from 1996) destroyed most of the stunt and fight sequences. Then on top of that it was really poorly edited too. I could have overlooked how bad this movie was if the action was up to snuff but it wasn't even as good as the fights found in Ong Bak 2. =/

reply

Unfortunately it is true. Sloppy movie.
The fight scenes were boring. It did not need the 3D.
JeeJa Yanin big disappointment.

If you want good choreographed fight scenes watch: Chocolate(the one with JeeJa, not the one with J Deep :), Legendary Assassins, The Raid, TYG, Ong Bak 1.

And what is RZA doing in this movie? He doesn't know how to fight. His movements are out of sync.

It happens only what is suppose to happen. That's the whimsical fatality!

reply

I think everyone is comparing this movie to the first TYG and had in their heart that it would meet the quality of the first (I was one of them). If you compare it to most martial arts films out there its actually a pretty good effort. Its not even close to the first one but its an enjoyable movie. Looking at it logically this was not a bad film. And the ratings so far reflect it. At 6.3 is a good score, though I think by imdb standards it should go down to a 5.7 which is still a respectable rating.

reply

Herein lies the problem with your argument. The movie is called Tom Yum Goong 2 and is the sequel to probably his best movie, so of course it's going to get compared, it's absolute trash and is easily his worst effort. He's gone backwards. Now granted he is getting older but seriously it's just dire. Although Ong Bak 2 wasn't that great at least the martial arts on display where, different styles, in this he's just gone back to the generic Muay Thai moves we've all seen before and now he's using wires and crappy CG! For those worrying about no one taking over the crown, just look towards Iko Uwais (The Raid/Merantau) for someone who is capable of delivering.

reply

the problem with TYG 2 and tony jaa himself is that he has taken for granted his martial arts style ... brucelee, jackie and even jet li improvised and offered new stunts movie to movie and never repeated their stuffs .... but tony is repeating the same with same screenplay , same kind of reactions and characterisations ... and the characterisation of his role in all movies is same ... no variety like jackie .... thats probably another reason why its turning out to be too boring ...

reply

Exactly, there's only so many times you can watch him knee or elbow drop someone without it getting repetitive. When he attempted some of the different kung fu styles and weapons in Ong Bak 2 it appeared he was willing to evolve and incorporate other techniques along with his native Muay Thai, but this film has completely ruined any innovation that came before, it's like he was playing it 'safe'.

reply

Yeah I just don't get it, usually or most of the time an actor gets better and better with each movie. This is so oddly backwards, he's getting worse and worse.

I have to blame it on his manager or the people surround him. Ong Bak 2 is stupid, OB 3 is really unwatchable its so bad.

reply

Look up the movie Skin Trade. He is fighting Michael Jai White and Dolph Lundgren. Also starring Peter Weller (Robocop) and Ron Perlman.

He's filming Fast 7 with Diesel and is going to be working with Donnie Yen soon. Jaa is far from fizzling out.

I see movies.

reply

Be interesting for you to re-read your comments here, he's barely in Furious 7 and Skin Trade is very average. Sorry, but Tony peaked with the original Ong Bak and Tom Yum Goong, both groundbreaking but ultimately impossible to top. He's past it for me, Iko Uwais has taken the crown now.
