Netflix move. Not bad.

Written, directed and co-starring Canadian comic Jay Baruchel. Most Americans would know him for his role in Tropic Thunder and a few other comedies. This movie though is not a comedy but a straight up slasher flick.

The plot in one-sentence: A comic book creator, his gf and two friends set out on a road trip. The comic book creator's are based on a historical serial killer who starts killing again using the comics as inspiration for his murders... sort of art imitating life imitating art thing.

The plot is interesting enough. What made this movie for me was the cinematography which emulates those chessy grindhouse flicks of the 70s which the garish colours, canted camera angles, etc.

The actual kills are appropriately gory. The film is weakened somewhat by the early reveal of the killer. I like my serial killers as these mysterious forces-of-nature not some random white dude. (Has there ever been a serial killer of colour in a movie?)

Good enough for a single watch...
