The End Notes - Was this Based on a True Story?

The end notes seem to imply that this was based on a true story. Then again, the cynical side of me wonders whether or not the director (or producer) decided to add them to give the film an air of credibility and importance--something which I don't think it needed. I couldn't find anything on the web (yet) connecting the dots with any true story. Does anyone know for sure?

I can't help you but I was definitely having the same thoughts. Maybe we'll hear more after it's out a while..

I was wondering the exact same thing when I seen the notes at the end.

Yes I searched as well and found nothing, but as nothing was mentioned at the beginning I came to the conclusion it was bogus. Shame really because I thought the film was ok and didn't require the directors fake last impression.

i agree, that rubbed me wrong too. if it wasn't real then don't fool us that way.

otherwise i liked it, but not being misled at the end

I thought it wrapped up the story nicely. You see Cal walk out of the hospital arm in arm with his family (you know, cowboy rides away into the sunset). And then, boom, he's in jail.
I did not take these cards for real, more like a surprise at the end. I thought during the hospital scenes, they can't let him get away with this!!? And they didn't.
