BADDIES WIN ...wtf?

I saw an alternate ending where Oldman tracked down the tinkering boyfriend and his deceitful accomplices and killed them one by one. He tracks down Billy - Donald Sutherland character last. He gets hung by his scarf in the clockworks.

He then cremates all their remains in ancient urns which he expertly auctioned off.

He sells them to the highest bidder, cracks down the auction hammer and smiles with great satisfaction.

THE END

sorry I dreamed this up...but

How I wish this is how it ended. :(

They were all baddies, he didn't get all those paintings fairly.

And the con was based on that, because he couldn't go to the police for multiple reasons....

funny but the ending shown to the public is the alternate one, the actual ending ***SPOILERS*** I saw was that Claire ends up being a robot that's been alive for 200 years and they know this when they rebuild the other robot by pieces and becomes into another woman.

funny, but the one and only ending is the one where virgil realizes it's been him who had spent all his life locked up in the house and everyone else just existed in his head.

We learned more from a three minute record than we ever learned in school

The movie is about chracter development, he doesn´t feel the need for revenge, he became another person in the end and that would never have happened without the con but he still wants the girl back, thinking that she really loved him and that this was the authentic part of their con, I think she went to the restaurant in the end, so it´s still a happy ending.

I sometimes really question Billys motive, was he just greedy or wanted he the "best" for Virgil, free him from his obsession, in one of Virgils last auctions, when he was so confused because Claire was not to find and made the mistakes, Billy seemd concerned, but maybe that is a bit too naive thinking.
