Swiftest of thieves

I liked the movie but, come on, how could they get so many paintings (hundreds?) out of Virgil's house during his stay in London (3 days top?) without any of the helps noticing ?

reply

I thought the same thing. There was the line about Virgil wanting to send the help home after dinner. Maybe they leave and the thieves had each night to move paintings?

reply

So what if the help notice? It's none of their business anyway. It shouldn't take more than an hour max, so just remain calm, work quickly and drive off. Ask them to help and it will go even faster.

reply

It looked like they just cut the canvases out of the frames. That shouldn't have taken that long and would've been easier to transport.

reply

No, the frames were gone. Also no one who knows a thing about art would ever do that. But the walls were bare anyway.

They had a long time to plan it, and find some discreet, competent hired hands to help. Billy had known Virgil for, apparently, most of both of their lives; he'd know when staff would be there and when they wouldn't, and by this time so would Claire. Billy, and probably Robert as well, would also know how to pack everything safely but with a minimum of fuss.

I don't think it's a big stretch. It'd be intensive hard work, for sure, but they all went into it prepared for that.

His mansion was opulent and huge. Hard to believe it would be unguarded and without an alarm system.

When you consider they also totally cleaned out Robert's shop with its tons of projects and tools and whatnot, it was indeed a fast escape.
