More of a mystery suspense than a horror movie

Recently I wanted to treat my self to a good horror film. So I purchased this movie off the net, hoping it would be very genuinely scary. Blumhouse production movies have lately been very good, especially since they have redefined the whole genre of horror. To be honest this one felt more like a suspense mystery rather than a horror. The movie seemed to reveal everything at a slow rate. The running time is too long for the plot. The majority of horror is towards the end with the climax. The super 8 movie scenes were frightening, but that is not enough horror to bite in to. The concept is new and fresh and I had the feeling that they had a sequel in mind after the script was complete. In the acting department, Ethan Hawke carries the movie along. In general 'Insidious' is still better but this offers something different.

I think horror as a genre has a much broader scope than people are willing to give it. A movie with mystery and suspense can still be considered a horror movie.

Also, in what way has Blumhouse productions "redefined" horror??!?!
