Would any of these movies exist without Gladiator?

Script writers are *still* copying exact whole scenes from Gladiator, all they did was add a volcano. Amazing how much these movies owe to the original.

I just watched this movie and saw a lot of resemblances to Gladiator as well as Titanic.

And would the 'original' Gladiator exist without Ben-Hur, Spartacus, The Fall of the Roman Empire, The 300 Spartans, The Robe or any of the countless epics in this genre produced since the silent era?

I feel what you are saying, but when Gladiator came out in 2000, it was such a hit that it reinvigorated big time actors and directors into doing these movies again. Before Gladiator there was a lull in the quality of actor and director you could get for these kinds of films.

Now we have had a glut of them that all feel the same.

Without Gladiator I would say 300 definitely doesnt get made. Without 300 then you wouldnt have the movies after it so....there it is.

The idea of the Anderson was let's make the movie gladiator but with a volcano and weak actors.
