There wasn't a pyroclastic flow in Pompeii. You might be mistaking it with Herculaneum.
It was the gradual ash, pumice and large earth tremors that caused the commotion. They all died because they couldn't breathe due to the intoxicated air. Plus the heat would have been horrendous.
No tidal wave.

i wanna like the OP comment, and this one as well. It was bothering me all along that the eruption and all that didnt happen this way... No ash was coming even, for goodness sake whole Pompeii was covered in meters of ash and there was nothing here of that.
The only good thing in this movie was the black slave.

true but the volcano is not credited in the movie!
