Don't know how this got such a low rating
En las afueras de la ciudad is the original spanish language film by Patricio Valladares, he is doing an english language version due out in 2014 starring Michael Biehn among others.
The story here is quite real. Fathers sexually abusing their daughters at very young ages, the daughters having children from rape, etc.
This is framed around the story of a group of drug dealers who have their operations deep in the forest.
2 daughters and a deformed son from a "familial" rape incident are confronted with extreme brutality as they try to survive in this environment. They in turn must use violent (and graphic) measures in order to live another day.
Having lived in South America for a few years I can tell you the twisted kind of macho male behavior portrayed in this film is widespread. Sure it exists just about everywhere else but Valladares does a superb job of showing the South American side in this film.
It's brutal, in your face, well paced filmmaking which works all the way through.
The story, the acting, the production and the effects are top notch, and one aspect of the effects which I'm not going to reveal here are particularly grisly and realistic.
