I feel like I've seen it

Is this a remake of an old movie from the 50's or 60's? I feel like I've seen it, almost verbatim.

Have you ever seen a film called Last Summer? It was originally released in 1969 and it shows up occasionally on TCM. California Scheming has almost the exact same plot, right down to featuring a manipulative girl who adopts and then kills an injured sea gull.

OMG! Thats it. The plot is identical. Thank you.

When I first heard about this film, it reminded me of that old Barbara Hershey film as well.
and while "last summer" came on TV many times when I was a kid back in the '70s, I never watched the film all the way through. I don't know why, I guess it didn't seem interesting enough for me. And yet, I do recall many of the early scenes from that movie.
So when I heard about this new film, I was certain it was a remake. But Marco Weber, who wrote and directed this new film, doesn't give any credit at all to the previous movie; and that makes me very suspicious.
Indeed, the fact that these two films are too much alike, and the filmmaker gives no credit to the previous movie reminds me of a scene from “The Squid and the Whale (2005)” when a kid claims he wrote a new song, and plays it for everyone. And then he’s outed when someone recognizes it as an old Pink Floyd song that he plagiarized.
I wonder how long it will take before this Weber guy is outed for his plagiarism?
