there ought to be a new genre for this type of film..
a supposedly horror-driven film in which the drama and interpersonal relationships and dynamics of the story's main characters actually retain the focus of the film, relegating any horror connotations strictly to the back burner..
perhaps 'slow burn horror/suspense'..
simialr films in which the characters' personal back stories are far more compelling and engrossing than any specifically horror-driven devices would be the movie 'black rock'..
i must say, as a horror/suspense fan, i am really enjoying these indie efforts which elevate the genre to something far more interesting..
of course, the ultimate success of this type of movie hinges entirely on the extreme naturalness and realness of the acting.. everything just feels so natural, real and spotaneously executed, from the nuances of facial expressions to the intricacies of the slice-of-life dialogue.. a film of this nature can only truly succeed if you have a perfectly cohesive cast to bring it all to life..
