Did any straight man enjoy this movie?

I am in doubt whether to watch this movie. Being a straight man, a movie about male strippers is perhaps not a natural first choice.. But a 6.1 is not so low, and the movie did very well at the box office.

Is there any straight man who enjoyed the movie for its story/plot?

reply

I definitely enjoyed it but then again I enjoy almost every Steven Soderbergh movie and think that they all have too low scores on IMDb.

For someone who isn't biased for Soderbergh it's probably an average movie. Nothing revolutionary but there aren't too many movies about male strippers out there!

I loved this movie and I am a guy who is into women. If you're comfortable with seeing some peripheral dong shots and oiled up muscles it's worth a watch.

reply

That one peripheral dong shot towards the beginning is pretty funny.

Even from a straight guys perspective, it's hard not to respect the amount of work that goes into looking like the guys in this movie.

I'm about half way through and I think it's pretty damn bad... and that has nothing to do with the male stripping. I was actually looking really forward to it when I heard about it cause Soderbergh was directing and I thought it could be unique and interesting, but it's not. Matthew Mcconaughey has some funny moments but that's about the only good thing so far.

Well, it is ok, quite good and entertainig during 2/3 parts of the movie, for me it's on that third part that goes wrong, and very specially the ending, awfull almost humilliating i won't "spoil". Anyway it is worth a view.

The stripping part is not bothersome, as a fact, if you "fear" this movie for this, i really wouldn recommend you Sdbergs' Behind the Candelabra because while being a good movie with great acting, it certainly has some maybe uneasy explicit "showing" and "talking" betwetween them, nothing major, but yes a little too much for me at some scenes. Anyway It worths a watching, regardless of that.

reply

Yes I enjoyed it. Although I didn't pay to see it and did not view it in a theater... so I can't say whether it's worth paying to see

You'll miss a lot in life if you avoid things that society deems inappropriate for the category of person that you think you fall into (e.g. "straight male"). Half-naked men dancing doesn't really excite me because I'm also a straight male, but I enjoyed the film... it wasn't amazing or groundbreaking, but I enjoyed it

I admit i put off watching this movie because it was hyped as oooh Channing Tatum stripping sex sex sex and wasn't really my thing. But when i watched it i rather enjoyed it even though it did wobble around the place a bit, especially their script but it was fun and the dancing was pretty impressive.

I actually kinda liked it and I'm a straight guy. The stripping scenes weren't easy to watch for me but I still watched the movie and enjoyed it.

Guessing the OP has since watched this movie, but to other straight guys out there, you shouldn't be too afraid of this movie.
I don't remember any dong scenes, was a bunch of topless guys prancing around on stage and some scenes of great looking women with not much on.

It's more of a very well made drama about a guy that likes to party but then has to re-evaluate himself and his proprieties in life. It's the modern equivalent of Saturday Night Fever.
