What's with all the women on the show having long silky hair?

it doesn't even look natural for all the black women (if not all then most of them) to have long flowing silky hair. Why can't black women embrace their natural hair or style their hair in different ways instead of them all having fake european looking hair. It makes them look like clowns cuz they look silly parading around like they got it going on cuz they got all that hair on the heads. My hair was right below my shoulders but I decided to go natural and now wear it in a curly afro and straighten every now and then. It just irks me to see black women trying to look European with all that long fake hair.

Are you serious?

Uh, you really need to chill. How you know they don't wear their own hair off camera? As far as I'm concerned, the hair is part of the character. Angela is a hair stylist and Leslie is her friend and she gets her hair done by Angela. Take S. Epatha Merkerson from Law & Order. For a long time I thought that wig she wore on the show was her real hair until I saw her without it. It's part of the character.

What the heck does S Epatha Merkeson have to do with anything? I dont recall her ever wearing long flowing wigs that look unatural. I guess you guys are either white or have no idea what I'm talking about, or have never watched"for better or worse", if so you'd know what I was talking about.

Weaves, wigs, whatever. I used Merkerson as an example of women who don't wear their own hair which is what the women you refer to are doing. Duh!

Anyways, I am a big fan of FBOW and I have worn weaves in the past. I have grown out my relaxer and gone natural. BUT, I still wear wigs.

Big deal! This is why women have the reputation for sizing up other women and being so insecure. Always worrying about everybody else and not ourselves.

oh gawwsh. Another Natural Nazi makes a comment. Straight hair, wigs, weaves and extensions in general do not mean black women are trying to look European. This is a stereotype, that black women should not put on others. I'm natural, I love my natural hair, and I love to rock it curly, blown out, straight, AND weave it up. I do what I want and its my prerogative and it doesn't define who or what I'm trying to look like. I'm only trying look and be myself, regardless of my hairstyle.

I'm having problems understanding your argument. It makes total sense to me why the actresses playing these characters have wigs, weaves, and etc. Heating and styling their actual hair every week may be damaging and they may use the wigs, weaves as a protective style.

It's great that you wear your hair in a curly fro. I'm sure it looks great on you, but that's YOUR choice. If I want to wear a weave down to my back, it does not mean I'm trying to be European! It just means I want to wear a weave down my back. If I want to cut my hair off, it doesn't mean that I'm embracing my natural hair either. It just means I cut my hair off. The same can be said with most black women. It's hair! It isn't that deep or that serious.

Maybe because they want to? Just because you do something doesn't mean other people have to do it, jackass.

I dunno man. Perhaps you should go back to the 70's.

Guys wear their hair short nowadays. It doesn't bother me even though I refuse to cut my hair shorter than the middle of my back, because I live my life in a way that makes me happy, not everyone else.

reply

Long hair on a guy is gross imo, especially as long as yours supposedly is... are you trying to be mistaken for a woman or a homeless dude? Good luck trying to find a job "living to make yourself happy". Your appearance affects how people see you even if you don't care. It isn't going to change people's opinions. It's good to be unique but not in a extreme, unprofessional, irresponsible way. Besides so many people have dyed, long, curly, weird cut hair, tattoos, piercings these days it can no longer really be called unique so I kinda hate that excuse people use to look a mess. Be unique inside, not outside.

Some women just don't like the natural look, find it to be a lot of work and limited with the kinds of styles they can do. Afros, twist outs and so forth just don't look good to me. Nothing wrong with that. I'm frankly quite sick of the natural hair Nazi brigade whining and crying about what OTHER people choose to do with their hair or anyone elses for that matter.

Cool you wear your hair in a curly fro *claps for you* but not everyone feels the same or even likes the look. Perhaps you should be less concerned with weaves and wigs and more concerned with furthering your education in subjects that actually matter, such as grammar.

As someone said, the actresses have to endure heat and styling before each show, and natural hair is very fragile, too fragile for that constant manipulation. I have natural hair and can tell you I style my hair once a week or every other week. For actresses, the wig and weave would help to preserve the health of their natural hair. That OR they may just like the look.

Using weaves and extensions makes you go bald.

Laced up wigs gives you tumors.
