Best line.

Nicholas, cage them. I laughed too hard.

reply

"Elijah, would you take them away please?"

"Drew, Barry, more power!"

"Robin, write this down."

"Charlize, they're on the ray! Helen, hunt them down! William, hurt them! Halle, bury them! Hugh, Jack, man the battle stations! Kevin, bake on! We're still going to need that victory cake."

Those celebrity name jokes for the octopi stood out to me for sure--starting with the Drew Barrymore one that made you go, "That was a joke, right?", then leading to the whole string of them later. That had me laughing out loud.

I was VERY pleasantly surprised by how clever and hilarious I found this. The first two Madagascars I thought were okay, the third was an improvement but still not enough to make my favorites list...the Penguins TV series is also cute enough if not much else seems to be on, but it's not something I'd ever go out of my way to catch. But this movie, with Dave and Classified and all the other likable characters, plus many examples of strong writing and voice acting? It really impressed me. From the moment Dave revealed himself, I knew I'd be watching the whole thing through, rather than pausing it and returning some other time as I'd originally thought I might.

So, good stuff...cute and funny as the minions are, I don't have a lot of faith in their ability to carry a movie. I'll watch Minions, but not expecting a ton from it. Then who knows--maybe I'll be surprised again.

I agree! The movie was so much funnier and more clever than I was expecting. Great visual gags, superb voice acting, wonderfully entertaining characters, tons of inside jokes for adults, and so much creativity regarding Dave. Talk about a pleasant surprise! I'm puzzled by the low ratings.
