Why didnt she...?

Sorry if this has been asked, but when he was distracted with that other guy, why didnt she jump outta the trunk and run away???

reply

He had a screwdriver stuck in her cheek.

reply

Not while he was bashing in the car window, then chasing the guy around, and then beating him with the shovel.

reply

Good point...and if he was in fact a serial killer with several planned and successfully executed murders in the past, he should have planned this one a little better right from the start. For example, he should have scouted out a desolate location near the mall so that he could then frisk, bound, and tie his prey for that long drive. Well, I guess there wouldn't have been much of a movie plot, then.

anyone else a little creeped out by this? especially the fact that he used the word "prey."

Is English not your primary language, or are you just naïve?

First, Merriam-Webster online dictionary defines "prey" as:

a : an animal taken by a predator as food

b : one that is helpless or unable to resist attack : victim <was prey to his own appetites>

Secondly, unless you live in Smallville, there have been numerous movies and news articles bringing to light subject matter just like this. Try not to worry. The NSA will protect you. Lol.

uh, i realize it's the right word to use idiot, i'm just creeped out by your entire post and the use of that word in particular. i wouldn't be creeped out if you misused a word.

I'm with kid_c,

Somebody dispatch a unit to this guy's house.

reply

Hmm...it's all these opinionated "faceless" peeps that scare me.

I'm fairly certain the trunk was closed while he was doing all that.

reply

No.. The trunk was def open.. She was right next to the highway and could have flagged a car down..

Here's a frame from that scene. Trunk is definitely closed.

reply

Just watched the movie. It was closed.

reply

The trunk was closed. I remember while first watching the part where he was beating the guy if she could get run out of the trunk...but then once he was done beating the guy, he had to open the trunk to tell her "You made me kill that guy"

reply

Perhaps she was afraid that she wouldnt get far and he would do the same to her.

reply

Agreed. She did say "OMG! He is going to bury me!" to Hally Berri when she noticed a shovel in the trunk next to Michael Imperioli. So her fears were ligitimate.

reply

At times the killer was talking to the guy he was looking away from the girl. She could have easily pushed the screwdriver aside and jumped out. At that time, the other guy did not know realize the killer had someone in the trunk. It would have then been two versus one and the surprise element gone.

reply

Lol, OP is an idiot.

reply

I assumed he closed the trunk, and a deleted scene on the DVD confirms that.

reply

Turns out it was another bad edit. On first viewing I too wondered why she didn't just bolt out of there, as they didn't really clearly show him closing the trunk.

reply

i don't know if it was a bad edit. they didn't show him closing the trunk because they wanted to make it more of a surprise when he bashed michael imperioli's car window in. you can pretty clearly see that the trunk of the car is closed in the background if you're paying attention.

reply

There was also another chance for her to excape, she could've got out of the car while he was at the gas station filling the car, could've climbed through like she did and quickly got out and RAN

reply

I don't think her hips would fit through the opening between the seats. That's why she was halfway through & waving at the attendant - she was stuck.

reply

After reading this question,i saw that scene again. And it was closed. After killing that guy, when he goes back,he opens it,which means it was definitely closed!

reply

That was my first thought too, but then I just assumed he closed the truck before he went after the other guy

reply

I'm thinking it's because he was murdering that guy with a shovel and she didn't want the same treatment.

After Foster (the abductor) hits Alan with the shovel, he stands up and stares at what he has just done as he thinks of what to do. Then we see Alan try to crawl away, injured; but Foster hits him over the head with the shovel. During all this, every time we see the maroon car behind him, the trunk is DOWN; CLOSED. Obviously he grabbed the shovel and shut the trunk to keep her contained as he went after the witness. Once he believes that Alan is dead, we see him open the trunk. Jordan hears the struggle over the phone (switching to the black Lincoln).

She was not able to escape. Watch more carefully.
