Final shootout question (spoilers)
I don't understand what happened in the final shootout scene.
As far as I can tell: the General was setting up Lino somehow, and when warned of the assassination attempt he seems to position his men for an ambush. But at the last minute he allowed his own men to be slaughtered by Lino. Lino goes there with the intention of killing the general but ultimately does not and the two work out some kind of deal where Lino escapes and the General survives and captures some patsies.
What exactly happened here? Why doesn't the General kill Lino? Why doesn't Lino kill the General? Why and how do they collude in the middle of a firefight? Was it all planned out beforehand?
