Did anyone find the makeup scene a bit racist?

I thought they movie was pretty funny, but I found the scene where Legarde and Jackie dress up like stereotypical Japanese to visit the rival restaurant to be extremely racist. It was akin to Mickey Rooney's character in Breakfast at Tiffany's. I liked the movie, but I was really offended by that scene.

It was supposed to be over-the-top. Remember they were visiting an extremely pretentious restaurant where the food was just as ridiculous.

Passion is just insanity in a cashmere sweater!

I agree, it could have been racist but having the "ambassador" in a samurai getup is just too much of a farce to be anything.

I do get very tired when someone sees 'racism' everywhere!

The answer is 'NOOOOOOO'

I found this scene incredibly cringe-inducing. I wasn't offended per se (and I live in Japan), but it just wasn't funny. And to the user above who wrote about how Japanese filmgoers love Jean Reno, I can promise you that wouldn't make up for Michaƫl Youn's horrific geisha impersonation.

The movie overall was a fairly pleasant film, but this scene was overlong and painful to watch.

I'm Asian and I found that scene really really cringey too. I get that the film is a comedy and I appreciate that it's a little over the top but that particular scene was just plain wrong. Nobody in Japan would dress like that to go to a restaurant. I'm not one of those people who cry "racist!" at everything and consider myself pretty good humoured about jokes involving ethnic stereotypes but that scene made me really uncomfortable.
