Rip off of the book Holly Claus

Although they modernized the plot, changed the location from New York to L.A., and removed much of the fairy tale elements, so much of this is straight out of the kids novel The Legend of Holly Claus by Brittany Ryan. Holly Claus is a story about Santa's daughter traveling to New York for the holidays in order to find her place in the world. She ends up in a bad part of town, acts as a mentor to a group of kids, and works in a failing toy shop. Plus, Holly Claus also had the element of a dapper, charming man who was sent to distract Holly from wanting to return home. I can see how a lot of that can be coinincidence, but i spent most of the movie going, "Hey, that's a lot like..."

I take it the book wasn't credited as having been the inspiration upon which the film is based...?

I like you, Um. I like largeness...

Nope, it's just differenet enough that they wouldn't have to. Like I said, it might be coincidence (Holly Claus has this whole old fashioned fairy story element to it complete with a curse and a supernatural villain), but the basic plot was the same. Still this Annie Claus movie was cute

Oh, I see. :/ It sounded too similar to be mere coincidence, but I suppose it could've been. I thought the movie was all right, too, but the book title doesn't seem familiar. The basic premise does, though...I thought I had heard, read, or seen it elsewhere. Hmn. Maybe I did hear about the book at some time.

I thought the story was a little too clever for a made-for-TV movie.

Writer Nina Weinman turns out to be like the bad lawyer character in the movie.

I wonder if she perceived herself as such.

"Don't call me 'honey', mac."
"Don't call me 'mac'... HONEY!"

All of these movies are the same. Haven't we seen this plot in several other movies? Whether it's the daughter of Santa or the Son of Santa, they are all identical when it's all said and done. They may have different right and left turns in how they get there - but they are all the same.

So why are we acting surprised?

The book takes place in the early 1900s and has a different ending/backstory. It's more like a fairy tale, whereas the movie was more of a romcom. It's just key attributes that I feel are way to similar.
