Live Action Series or Movie could work?

Ok this sounds abit hilarious, but I was thinking given JJ Abrams has been giving his magic touch to everything he sets his mind to... could he pull off directing a Steins Gate movie or TV series? He has already proven he is a whiz when it comes to pulling off time paradoxes and time travel themes. Think Star Trek, Fringe, Lost.

I can just picture it now, JJ Abrams Steins Gate. Starring Jorge Garcia "Hurley" as Daru!

Totally can see it.

Who else would fit for the other characters?

Jude Law or Johnny Depp as Okabe?

I'd LOVE to see a live action series/movie based off Steins;Gate.
JJ Abrams - check
Takeshi Kaneshiro - check

Rest of the cast should not be a problem. But OMG, just the thought of a live action film!

It could work as a Japanese live-action movie/show, but I don't see it working that well as a Hollywood movie/show. Not only is it set in Japan with Japanese characters, but Steins Gate is full of references, tropes, dialogues, expressions and mannerisms specific to Japanese culture. It would be very tricky to translate all of that into a Hollywood adaptation that strikes the right balance between staying faithful to the source material and being more accessible to mainstream Western audiences, which is why we so rarely see anime-to-Hollywood adaptations.

I think it could work as live action series, but movies... no. because it has so many setups that depends on lots of time, I don't think Steins;Gate will be as beautiful if its story is compressed to a film.

As for the Hollywood series... I think the one who could execute it is Nolan Brothers :)
