George and Sarah

I didn't cry in this film until the credits when I read about President Faust arranging for the sealing of George and Sarah.
It just broke my heart to think that they had to wait so long for this.
I assume Sarah married someone else after arriving in the valley?

I don't think she married someone else. I'm not sure, but I don't think you can be sealed to someone other than the person you are married to. It is a really sacred thing. It is done inside a temple and there are not that many temples around.

The only thing that makes me hesitate is I wonder what was done in the case of polygamous marriages.

I checked after I posted the above - she definitely married someone else and had children by him. I am pretty sure she was like the third wife of one of the rescuers.
I have no idea how the sealing thing would work in such a case.

I trust what you are saying much more than I trust my own assumptions. I grew up in an LDS community, but that does not mean I know much about them. Glad you reposted.

There is a book about this movie. It is called More than Miracles. I think you can get it anywhere where LDS literature is sold or just go to ABEbooks and see if there is an inexpensive used one around. That's where I got mine.

Miracle 13 (which is page 53 in my edition) gives the story of the 3rd wife of Thomas Sloan MacKay. She was sealed with him. In a very unusual move President Faust also sealed Sarah Franks and George Padley. When told of this double sealing P. Faust said "Sarah and George earned it. We'll let the Lord sort it out."

I think in my background, I do remember how sacred the sealing is. This was some sort of miracle if you think that way because such a rule would not be easily disregarded. I'm not sure that you would easily find another instance.

Thanks for the update Jerome - I had assumed that it would have been something along those lines.
I have no doubt that the Lord will work it out and suspect you are right that it is somewhat unusual but, given the rather haphazard nature of lots of family history work (at least before the modern computerised age), there are probably lots of sealings to extra or incorrect persons.

I am a descendant of Sarah Franks and Thomas Mackay. She was Thomas Mackay's third wife and wasn't sealed to him until much later in life, and only at the request of her children. It makes perfect sense to me that she should be sealed to George Padley. Sarah was sealed to Thomas Mackay simply to put her children at ease, but her heart always belonged to George. The Lord wants us to be happy. People have their own agency and right to choose beyond this life. The sealing to George provided Sarah with that choice.
