Wiseguy (1987) Rip-off?

I'm not saying there aren't any original elements to it, but the basic premise of the show is 90% the same. A guy is groomed by a state agency that deals with organized crime to infiltrate such groups. He is sent to prison to establish his credibility. When he gets out, he infiltrates one of these groups by impressing a major crime boss, instead of rising up the ranks. The boss' second in command dislikes this. Our hero's family is oblivious to his real identity as an undercover cop (in the case of Martin, he is hesitant to tell his father; Vince Terranova can't speak to his mother about it and is alienated from her as a result). Steelgrave's daughter fancies Vinnie, Martin falls in love with Djaro's main squeeze, Sunny, etc. Granted, this one has been done to death in recent years and can't ever be completely original, but the similarities keep piling on the more I get into Wiseguy, having already seen all of Pod Prikritie. It kinda makes me wonder if Bulgarian producers think we have no contact with the outside world. Thoughts?
