Jungle waterfowl (minor spoilers)

After the helicopter crash, the head of the expedition says that the large birds that hit the copter were "jungle waterfowl," which regularly down planes in the area.

Yet, the first night in the jungle, the group escapes a bird attack by getting on the river. The WATERFOWL dutifully stop at the riverbed, presumably forgetting that they can fly. And that they are waterfowl. We later learn, of course, that these creatures might actually be dinosaurs, but the group didn't know that--and this doesn't explain why the creatures didn't pursue.

I enjoyed this movie, but I sometimes have to wonder what the heck screenwriters are thinking. They do revise their rough drafts, right?

The pterodactyl like dinos brought down the helicopter and rather than attribute it to dinosaurs he blamed "waterfowl". The creatures that attacked the village were a completely different species of flightless bat-like creatures.
