Seriously, what a complete ass hole. The part that really made me hate him was when he said "I was just trying to be nice to you." Sure, buddy. That's why two seconds later you called her a slut and a tease and stormed around her house because she's not into it. Real nice.

Men in this movie didn't have many redeeming qualities, did they? Krasinski, the Italian tutor... Justin Kirk and Dylan McDermott were on the douchey side, too. Only the kid who had a crush on Kolt was likeable. Now I'm not implying a character needs to be likeable to be interesting; just pointing out that there wasn't much redemption for the guys in this joint.

The fact that he was old enough to be Kolt's grandfather made him pretty creepy.

He was an unbelievable character. The situation was unbelievable. The film is unbelievably pretentious.

Get Real. He wasn't preying on her.

"With legs like these" (you shouldn't be tired) he's clearly joking.

Kolt's nightgown would be sexy on a granny (he's joking). But it seems weird that he would confuse a nightgown for a pair of panties. Then out of nowhere he insults her.

The whole scene is puzzling since her Italian is good so it seems bizarre that he would say "you never understand what I'm saying" or maybe I just don't understand it either.

I mean she just "forgot" the italian word for nightgown which doesn't even exist and I would know since I'm from Italy.

"Sexy Poems?" (he's joking but it could be borderline inappropriate).

The ending scene is incomprehensible because it refers to stuff that isn't in the movie. What is clear is that she insulted him with her poem and he got (justifiably?) angry. Why she wrote a poem like that is anyone's guess.

All in all the scenes with the italian teacher should have been greatly expanded or cut from the movie since they are weird, incomprehensible and distracting.

The man was a degenerate letch, who was clearly preying on the young woman. Her poem was spot on - and one of the highlights of whole movie, imo.

When he said "you never understand what I'm saying" he was hardly referring to Kolt's Italian.

I think what the tutor meant when he said that Kolt never understands is that Kolt never understands his tone or intention behind his words. So while Kolt does understand Italian she isn't picking up on the inflections and such and therefore missing the actual meaning.

The poem at the end confused me too. I mean, when did we see anyone laughing about him? He's never even mentioned out of scene. I think that maybe Kolt wrote that poem to intentionally make him angry because he treated her like a child when she wanted to be seen as sexually mature.
