What a bunch of crap (spoiler)

I was channel surfing and ran across this movie. I saw that a lot of well known actors were in this (Mehgan Goode, Danny Glover, Charles S. Dutton, Common, the Allstate guy etc.). So I thought I'd watch it. I have to say that the concept and the acting were good, especially the little boy's acting. The movie was good until Common's character died but it went left soon after.

Where do I start? For one thing, the detectives take this kid downtown and question him in a triple homicide without his parent/guardian's consent? Really? I'm not a lawyer but I don't think that that's legal or smart. Even if the kid had confessed to murder on tape, I don't think that it would be admissible but again, I'm not a lawyer. Then the detective drives the kid home and lets an 11 or 12 yr old decide "I'll tell my grandmother, she should hear this from me" and the detective is like "Okay, good idea. Go inside and tell your grandmother that you've been out all night because we are investigating you in a triple homicide involving your uncle (her son). It would be better coming from an 11 yr old kid. Bye". Then he drives off without even seeing that the kid, the only witness in his investigation makes it in the house safely. Never mind the fact that its just not safe to do that to any kid at night by himself but this is a witness in a triple murder involving a known drug dealer. Anyone could be out there watching the kid. Then the killer part was the end when this kid, who can barely see over the steering wheel, manages to drive all the way from Baltimore to North or South Carolina (forgot which one) in a late model Mercedes Benz (I KID YOU NOT) without getting pulled over. A full grown black man couldn't pull that crap off without getting profiled and pulled over by the cops a dozen times but an 11 yr old kid who should be wanted by the cops and his grandmother makes it there safely with a backpack full of a dead drug dealers money.

I did miss about 30 min (in the middle) so maybe I'm missing something that would explain this madness but I have a hard time understanding how this movie got a green light with this crap, let alone how they managed to snag so many big name celebrities. Didn't they read the end of the script? Well, I can see Charles S. Dutton. He'll do anything that involves Baltimore but why the others?

I liked the movie but I have to agree with what you said here. I thought the same things. And when Woody went to get Vincent's car from the crime scene...really!? There was NO ONE guarding the scene nor had the car been impounded as evidence??

Exactly. For some reason that part slipped my mind when I was writing this post but I was thinking the same thing when he went back early the very next morning. He's able to just freely walk around a crime scene and steal evidence (buried money and a big ass car) without being detected. The homicide was only hours old at this point and the sun had not long come up. That place should have been swarming with detectives and police officers but there was not one person there to monitor the crime scene. No wonder everyone was complaining about the many recent unsolved murders, the whole homicide investigation team was a bunch of incompetent idiots.

Maybe it was a city like Detroit where there are only 3 cops and they don't have time to be bothered?

LOL!

Just watched it and yeah, I don't get the ending. The detectives weren't doing their jobs or the writer is just clueless in regards to interrogation practices.

I didn't take the movie as a literal day but as an interpretation of how a boy learns about his uncle. These events were probably dramatized and took place over a number of years. Woody is portrayed as a creative 11 year old. If you ask a child to describe some horrific events you may get a colorful story.

When I watch movies, I always go by what they give me. He very well could have been embellishing his story but they should have given some type of hint. For example, they could have shown us what really happened while he narrated this crazy stuff to another character but since he didn't I'm lead to believe that they expect us to imagine that this unbelievable crap could really happen.

You've hit the nail on the head in relation to the film's inconsistencies and implausibility. For me, those were just the tip of the iceberg. I had a really hard time getting into it because of the content. Watching the uncle do one stupid thing after another without a single redeeming quality turned me off. If characters do stupid things, we have to at least see them struggle with their choices ethically, but we never see that from the uncle.

Yeah the film was definately unrealistic, but I dont think they were going for realism. Overall it was a interesting film. Doubt I would recommend it to anyone though. Its one of those indie films ill watch once, say "hmm" and move on.
