Anyone of you know Praise Jesus-types IRL?

After reading on this board I find that several people think that Ken's wife was over the top, unrealistic etc., but I actually do know Ultra-Christian people who are like this. Perhaps not exactly blurting out "Praise Jesus!", but for example praying really devotedly in public, talking about God and Jesus Christ in virtually every conversation at social events, denouncing alcohol completely for being sinful and so on.

They really exist. I can't be the only one on this board who knows some who are almost like Ken's wife in this movie, can I?

Yes, my spouse's brother and his family. We ate dinner at their house one night and there's a very realistic and very large painting on the wall next to the dining table of Jesus on the cross. Think Mel Gisbon's The Passion of the Christ in a painting. Gruesome stuff that turns you off your food.

Yes, a girl I used to date was absolutely that type. We had plenty of sex without marrige, so who knows how devout she actually was.

I've known plenty. You get used to it. They're very nice, wonderful, people. You just have to watch your language around them and learn a few Bible verses. After a while, it becomes easy.

Unless they're the crazy racist/homophobe kind. God will know where to put them when they stand before Judgement. Ignore those bastards.

I know plenty and have them in my family. A lot of them are very impressionable but also very dedicated. The running thread that ties them is that most of them lived tragic lives or experience mind-altering traumatic events.

Now that is interesting! It always seems like they have had pasts with extreme drugs, alcohol, crime etc. they have the ‘spiritual experience’ where they make a decision to stop walking down that path. The sad part is that they stop walking period, they ‘give it to Christ’ and stop thinking for themselves and are at the mercy of the religion for the rest of their lives. I always think of these people as emotional extremists. They go from one drug to the next and are completely consumed by it.

It seems like you have to be that type of a person to really get into religion to that level because a person who has lived a relatively normal life doesn’t need the religion like a drug to fixate on.
