question ***SPOILERS***

forget about the boiling water thing entirely, my question is more or less hypothetical. considering that michael is a pedophile, he will only be attracted to wolfgang for another few years right? considering it would be impossible for him to let him go, do you think he would be able to murder him? michael is certainly evil for what he does to this boy, kidnapping him and sexually abusing him, but he also seems to have genuine affection for him and doesn't treat him as if he were just a sex slave.

what do you think would eventually occur assuming the last 15 minutes of the film didn't happen?

Looks like Michael was more or less ready to get rid of Wolfgang. Because he dug a grave for him.

A man kidnaps a child, holds him captive and dugs a grave for him... A murder seems to be a matter of time. But fortunately, some of these real-life stories end happily. For example, the last two victims of the pedophile Marc Dutroux - at first, he kidnapped a girl and soon she told him she wanted a 'girlfriend'; then he kidnapped a second girl while a witness saw it - so, the police soon found and rescued them both. I actually thought that the film was going to go this way - when Michael went to the racetrack to find a 'friend' for Wolfgang.

Some of the kidnapped children even manage to escape by themselves. Of course, the amazing story of Natascha Kampusch comes to mind. Her life clearly inspired some parts of this film: skiing, an electrical timer, a bunk bed, a kidnapper taking a walk with his victim in public places while the victim never tries to escape, etc.

I highly recommend everyone who liked this film read an autobiographical book by Natascha Campusch called '3096 Days'. It thrilled me way much more than this movie (although the movie is perfect).

well the grave was dug in the event that he died from the illness he was suffering from, not because he planned to murder him. at least that was my understanding of it. still, i suppose that murdering him would be an inevitable conclusion. he would eventually lose sexual interest in him once he got past his age of attraction and he couldn't simply just let him go since he would obviously turn him in and michael would go to prison for the rest of his life.

i'm sure the boy reached the same conclusion. it seemed as if he was fairly bright. it does seem strange in hindsight that he didn't just wait for his next "public outing" to run away instead of throwing scalding water in his face. seems like the former would have a nearly 100% chance of being successful while the latter attempt was a failure (at least initially) and could have resulted in him being murdered immediately. perhaps the boy was so angry that he wanted to cause grievous injury to michael in addition to escaping, and risking his own life in doing so was worth it.

I agree, Michael was taking precautions in case the victim died. Though it is a possibility that Michael may have killed his victim at a later date.

I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not.
