Obvious what happened....
Americans were on a spy mission. Ran into these unfortunate people and had no choice but to kill them. The location is near a rocket launch site.
Nothing supernatural about this.
Well, that's more plausible than a lot of other "explanations" I've heard, I'll give it that..
