I agree they handled this poorly, but disagree that it has nothing to do with the tickets. We know he has the tickets with him during the heist, and even though he didn't explicitly confirm that he "magicked up" the tickets between the time he met Mary and when he arrived at the jewelry store, he seemed to imply it if only by not contradicting her. While it may seem like he went straight from the cafe to the jeweler's, there's nothing to preclude the possibility that he made a stop in between to pick up the tickets from the person he had just called. I think the way they did it was at least better than if they had added a scene showing him picking up the tickets. That would have been way more distracting than a few second phone call. Yes, the filmmakers leave us to somewhat guess what's going on here, but if you assume that his having the tickets during the heist means he must have been carrying them on him already when he meets her, are we to assume he bought two tickets to a concert for which he had no prospect of a date? Possible, but seems like more of a stretch.
