Cancelled? But it has already been shot, this does not make sense...
Where did you get this info from?
Thanks

reply

It's true I'm afraid. A bloke told me, down the pub.

Are you serious? I doubt the film's been 'cancelled' after having been shot and $10,000,000 spent on making it, and with Academy Award nominated stars Ryder and Franco starring in it. They'd at least do a direct to DVD release (but I hope that's not the case). I'll take it that you're just joking.

No, I would never joke about something like that. James Franco requested it to be cancelled after he chipped a tooth on one of the co-stars heel.

I (hesitantly) emailed Jay Anania (the film's director), just telling him I was really anticipating the film etc. and if there was any new information. He very kindly and courteously responded confirming that it was now called The Letter (and would be distributed under that name), and that it is to be distributed by Wrekin Hill Entertainment (a sub-company of Lionsgate). Even he's not sure when the film's release date is, but said that he believes Wrekin Hill has contractually committed to release it this year, adding that it will most likely have a 'small theatrical' release and then 'different VOD and dvd stuff'.

2012: The return of Winona.

I was hoping for a big theatrical release for Winona Ryder but from what you are stating it won't happen. This film has potential but I doubt it will be a hit. I just hope it won't be released straight to dvd. That would be really bad. So tell me, this sub-company of Lionsgate is reliable in terms of theatrical release? Thanks.

reply

Tbh I never really expected a big theatrical release considering Ryder's not a huge, box-office draw at the minute and she's the female lead in what is essentially an independent production. Hopefully it'll manage to at least make back its $10million dollar budget and then some, but I'm more hopeful for the film actually being a good, quality one. I'm slightly wary of Wrekin Hill because they're a relatively new production company, but most of their films have been of at least decent quality and received at least a limited theatrical release. Many of their films are also 'speciality' ones by 'new/innovative' directors, so I think the success of The Letter will also rely a lot on Mr. Anania (the director). Here's hoping!

I wonder if there will be a new IMDb page for The Letter of if they will just rename this one???

I couldn't find a page for it searching on IMDb...

Peace.

Ryder & Franco are huge stars. This should have a wide release! People would go see it!

The letter will be selled next week at cannes market.
Will be realased later this year.
Does not confuse with Cannes Film Festival. Cannes Sell Market is a part of cannes film festival but is not truly a part of it. It's a place that movies recently finished or in pre or post production are selled to destributions companies.

The last word and Sex and Death 101 were selled in Cannes and Berlin sells market.-

I personally think that will open on Toronto Film Festival in America and will open in or out concurse in Venice or Donostia in Europe in late summer.-

Well according to the film's director it's definitely been acquired by Lionsgate and being distributed through their sub-company Wrekin Hill Entertainment. That may only be in the U.S. though. I could imagine the film being premiered at Toronto International Film Festival this year (or at least I sure hope so cos I'm attending!!).
