Better Than A 3!

As others have said, this isn't as bad as the rating says. It's no Gladiator, and I tend to be generous to movies about subjects I'm interested in, but this is watchable. A rating of 3 is not something I would consider even watchable.

If you have absolutely no interest in this battle, history or historic battles in general, then I'd probably give it a pass. But if you like these things, watch it, if only for the sight of the Winged Hussars. I'd give it a 5.5. It can get a little silly at times, but worth it for the battle.

I agree with Louie's girl. It's obviously made for the casual viewer of films - with two protagonists, an Italian priest and a Turkish general as rivals who are destined to meet again -- giving personal insight into a grand scale historical event. There could have been 100 characters to follow through an epic television series, but this movie is a quick look at the turning point for Europe, whether to continue with its Christian culture or submit to Islam's tenets.

We watched it on Netflix. Both actors were superb. Flavored history on the small screen.

I agree too. I gave it a 3/5 on NetFlix and 6/10 here. It wasn't a zillion dollar epic quality film, but it did the job quite well I thought. For someone like me who isn't very familiar with European history prior to the French Revolution, the movie managed to explain the events while still maintaining the drama and characterization.

There were only two problems, and one wasn't even really with the film. First, I thought it went a bit overboard on the whole miracles theme (curing the sick/blind, cannonballs exploding right next to Marco, who is just fine with it and completely unconcerned...lol). The other problem may have been with NetFlix. There was a period of at least 20 minutes at the end where the audio and video became unsynchronized by 10 seconds or so. I was hearing the plot, digesting it, and listening to the next scene before seeing the action take place. o.O

Finally, I thought the acting was quite good as well. I was surprised that they didn't concentrate more on the Polish general though.
