Is there enough material in the book to exceed a single season?

Because it seems like they're going through the book pretty fast.

only 8 episodes, they may have a 2nd season if this is a success, they will not introduce a few gods this season including Mamma Ji and i hope the season ends on them going to war thus forcing STARZ to get a 2nd season

reply

8 episodes? damn thats short.

Starz has renewed it for a second season.

This was made to be Starz' new prestige show. I'm sure they have a big gameplan in place to run a few years.

Starz does not have a good track record with series. The only ones I've really liked were Ash versus Evil Dead and Spartacus. I watched all of Magic City and liked it more for its historical feel and hot naked women than for its narrative, acting or execution. I watched all of DaVinci's Demons and regretted it. I watched all of The White Queen and regretted it even more, so I'm watching none of The White Princess. I watched 1 1/2 episodes of Black Sails and bailed. I have no interest at all in Power or Outlander. I liked Camelot a little but they cast a complete pussy as Arthur. Now, a stopped clock is right two times a day, so I'm not going to say that a team with such a record of mediocrity CANNOT create a Signature Hit, but I am saying it's unlikely.

Black Sails is amazing, but you really have to power through the ridiculous over the top first six episodes or so.

But I'm not going to give a show 6 hours to get going, and that's also my problem with AG, which is getting two diametrically opposed reactions. Those who've read the book love it. We who have not are bored to tears. I recently read the show's creators love the book and that their guiding principle was "What do fans of the book want to see?" I guess the rest of us, who don't have the roadmap, can go fuck ourselves. This is a TERRIBLE way to design a show. Millions of people also love the GoT books, but that show grabbed your attention from the first minute and was immediately accessible to everyone. I expect a constant erosion of the AG audience. How disappointing.

reply

Everything that you're saying just sounds to me like you don't like anything Starz puts out. Many people disagree with you otherwise Spartcus, Outlander, Black Sails etc, would not have made it past the first season. I'm a fan of all of these shows and think Starz is set to be one of the bigger networks alongside Showtime and Netflix. I'm sorry you feel the way you do. You should probably just quit watching now.

reply

I think you might be right. I didnt read the book for AG and I am kinda lost,,,and really just liked the first 2 episodes. And with Game of Thrones, I didnt read the book, but I loved the series so far. Loved it.. So yeah, I am losing interest in AG except I just love Wednesdays character so I watch for him.

reply

I hate the "If you've read the books, this'll all make sense" excuse. A piece of media should stand on it's own feet and give all the needed information. It should not require supplemental materials in order for the audience to understand it. So, I agree with you.

reply

I liked the Girlfriend Experience and Flesh and Bone. Oh and The Missing.

" big gameplan in place"

well they effed that up . They chopped the book into so many pieces (seasons) that the first one has no story , and therefore has failed to engage people (except those that already know the story from the book).

I'm not watching S2 until its finished airing and i find out if the story moved on at all
