I am done with Oscar bait crap like this.

This movie never shows you the weight and pathos these acts had on these children and the adults they became. We never see the brutal, ugly first hand for what it is, outside an expositional glimpse. Instead it decides to focus on these four boring f** uncovering the story for you. What a waste of a potentially gut-wrenching movie. F**cking Inside Out, a GODAMN CHILDREN'S MOVIE about literal emotional archetypes, had better writing, more emotion and more depth of character, narrative and theme, than a gritty grounded drama about a child sex abuse scandal. Process that for a minute.

I am officially done with these "experts" giving mediocre films a pass. A film is not intrinsically good just cause it's super-serial bro! I'm now conditioned to think any movie these the Academy and Critics hype up won't be remembered a year after release. Don't waste your time with this one.

everyone forgot about this, just like they did with every oscar winner of the last 20 years.

Considering the explosive potential of the subject matter, the film left me surprisingly unmoved. I thought there wasn't anything distinguished about the filmmaking. It looked and felt like a TV-movie. That year I was far more impressed with The Big Short.

TV movie...

uh...I liked it

Yes. I expected a story about the abuse. This is a mundane drama masquerading as a super hero movie. Really dull.

The OP criticizes the movie for not telling the story it never purports to tell. Spotlight is about the paper's courageous pursuit of a story powerful people didn't want told. It was never intended to focus on the suffering of the abuse victims. The OP complains that the movie doesn't tell the story he wanted to tell. Not very logical.
