Too much God.

They story did not need all the god stuff.

And really, if you took it out, what would be fine. The lodge, love and Christmas have enough magic to go around.

I'm thinking this is because it's based on Thomas Kinkade, and he may have a certain following that expects the religious element .

I agree with the original poster but this is the film they wanted to make and its about "Christmas" which is a celebration of the birth of Jesus. I m not religious but I did enjoy the film. Its not meant to be ground breaking. I am glad I stumbled across the title.

ChristmasStan,

It’s good you’re not religious. God doesn’t want a religion with you, He wants a relationship.

How dare a Christmas movie have Christ in it! Lol

Well, Jesus IS the reason for the season.

It's the TBN station, which is all about God.

Although I'm not religious myself I'm not against a bit of religion in the film like saying grace at the table but I did find the part where Grandpa asked Mary if she spoke to her Grandma and what did she say as though she were still alive bit over the top.

My older daughter died the morning after her 40th birthday following a terrible neurological disease of 19.5 years. She was one of the most amazing and vivid people I have ever known. She touched the lives of many people in large and small ways. It was extremely quiet in my house after she was gone.

Sometime people would ask me how I was feeling because I am only "vivid" one person at a time and quiet when no one is around. Not lonely; just quiet. My reply was that sometimes I could hear her talking to me about some decision I made or place I was going and, in my mind, or if I were alone, I would speak with her. Sometimes, out loud. But not in public. :)

When you lose someone you love so dearly, it can take a long time before you experience them being gone forever in your lifetime. We believe that this life on earth is the first stop in our journey and death opens the door to the next one, to a far more interesting life.

It is easy to not fret about small things because we know it is simply another language of love.

The only purpose I can think that Christmas serves - aside from honoring the birth of Jesus Christ - is for those of us who believe the story to sing Happy Birthday to Him.

I am not religious. I do have faith. That seems strange but that is the best way I can describe things. I will never knock anybody for what they believe in.

I just want to say to "A-Checkered-Life " I am sorry for your terrible loss. I do have faith that we will see our loved ones again.

That is how I do manage to get through the bad days.

Just remember "There is ZERO rules on how to grieve/mourn". Love brought your daughter into the world. One day "Love" will reunite you.

reply

I appreciate your comments, CD73!

Yes, you are correct that "Love" will reconnect people when it is time. My daughter has been in a far better place for over nine and a half years now, and best of all, completely free from the constant pain that she had those many years.

Our faith is encouraged by other like-minded people, even though many delightful folks may be of different mind sets than we might have, I am always grateful to meet kindred spirits along the way as has happened here on the IMDb board.

Good days, those that are 'meh", and others that are downers can all have a sunny side when we share our time with people of similar interests and attitudes. Thanks so much!

Wait a minute. Your complaining about a "Christ"-mas Movie? With Christian themes?
Time to repent.

I'm areligious (well not entirely, since upbringing is a factor in my adult characteristics) but, while I noted the "God talk", I thought, "So, what? Not all Christmas films are "Love Actually" or "A Christmas Story", or other similarly secular tales. And it's a cute story."

No different than films that have other spiritual beliefs (Mysticism for example) as an underlying theme. The film doesn't proselytize, their religious faith just happens to be the central theme of this particular group of people's lives.
