What doesn't make sense(spoilers)

If there is already a non-family member hanging out among the group why did they feel the need to make Daisy's love interest a family member? Why not make Eddie the older brother of the neighbor boy Joe? The incest aspect just seems so unnecessary and distracts from the overall quality of the film.

Because it is a real world dynamic that happens in reality, this isn't the first story where controversy rears it's head in a relationship - you may as well say of other movies "Why have the love interest married? Why not have him single?", the answer would be that he was intended to be a married man and not just a 'love interest' trying to tick a box, it was part of the story.

A part of this story is about two people that don't have a lot of dealings with the opposite sex, the city girl who pushes folks away and the country boy who lives in the middle of nowhere, they just happened to be related to each other when the hormones did what hormones do.

It is also a common thing for people in traumatic situations to turn to the people around them ie the countless stories of siblings who became sexually involved with each other during the 1st and 2nd World Wars because they didn't have anything else. It's never intentional, they just wanted/needed to feel something other than the horror and dissension of everything around them. Yes, it's unorthodox and taboo, but it's not completely unheard of.

Both Ed and Daisy had their own issues, and turned to each other to fill the needs that they didn't otherwise know how to deal with alone. And the army stepping in and separating them only strengthened their need for each other. That becomes the driving force that ultimately brings them back together in the end. It is simply because of the taboo nature of the relationship that the film's themes don't sit well with a lot of people.

WTF are you babbling about? I'm an avid WWI and WWII historian. I've never heard of a single case, let alone "countless" cases.
