I Liked It (Spoilers)

I actually liked this movie, it had everything I wanted from an indie film and more.

I thought the acting was pretty impressive, you could really feel the fear (and sometimes lack of) in the characters, you were never sure who you could trust.
The cinematography was great, combined with some amazing editing made it that more enjoyable.
it was a tense movie. I liked it.

My main problems were .. .SPOILERS:

- Who was the man Kimberly was seeing with her when she was "raped" by Dylan?
- The ending was very ambiguous, almost too ambiguous, one minute, the girl was driving away and the next minute, everything's fine at school. I like ambiguous endings but this was lazy storytelling.

the man was her teacher from school.

i didn`t get the ending too.

Are you sure? I thought that at the start, but then I checked the credits and "Unnamed Man" was listed, so I think that might be him.

I don't think it was the teacher in the room, I mean, he wore glasses and the teacher in glass didn't.

I, too, thought the man with glasses was the teacher. I went back to the beginning and it is not the same actor.

As for the ending...

If you listen again to the last conversation in the classroom, particularly when Kim is responding to the teacher's question about parataxis, she states that Ginsburg "painted a different reality, but he can't tell you what it is. He wants to say something else entirely. You have to decide what it is."

I think the ending montage shows this "different reality" that the kids have created. They're all acting as if nothing happened while clearly being haunted by the sight of Dylan.

We see Mica replaying the death on the camera. Rachel knows where she left Dylan's body. So either could go to the police.

We also see the guidance counselor asking if anyone has seen Dylan.

Earlier, there's a shot of Dylan's legs, exposed, either in a shallow grave or after having been dumped. The sound of a dog panting can be heard, hinting at the inevitable discovery of his body.

But personally, as shown by Kim's smirk as she walks through the gate in the final shot, I think these kids are going to go on living in their "different reality" until the murder finally catches up with them.

No one said it was the teacher they showed in the movie. I imagine it was another teacher or someone who could help her, since, as she said near the beginning, she didn't have pull or grades like the other girl, so she had to use the asset she had--her body. I think she was picturing that guy when she was in the room and because she had the shame of that, and then Dylan turned her down, she just took what had happened with that man and placed it on Dylan. She acted like a tramp, and then she told a HUGE lie, and that led to an innocent kid's death. I felt no sympathy for her.

I agree. Didn't like the ending at all. Left me thinking, "what just happened? "?.

ending isnt hard to figure out, they are haunted by Dylan seeing him cause they killed him. I think the guy she was seeing actually raped her and not Dylan but she was to afraid to say it so she blamed Dylan.

reply

So there was this random old guy at the same party and no one noticed? Or are you saying she was raped before the party, at a different time? Either way, that doesn't really make sense. I feel like they (the filmmaker) were trying to accomplish something really artsy and "cool" but it just came off as confusing and strange.

Also...weren't they planning on killing that girl with the car that was helping them hide the body? The ending was SO confusing and didn't make sense. We see the girl driving around with the body in her car, then we all of a sudden see everyone at school the next day acting all normal. Nothing was explained, so we are left to figure it out for ourselves, but we don't have enough clues to do so.

I just saw it a few days ago, it was an ok film, but where were their parents?, I kept wondering this the whole movie, I guess were left to conclude that their parents don't care about them, a sad movie any way you look at it.

I thought the man could have been a man that made Dylan's home life miserable and it was disturbed Dylan's vision. While watching, I NEVER thought it could be related to Kimberly until I came to this board. He doesn't even look like he could overpower someone; maybe expose.

The ending was like we were taken into their haze.
