@randi-50: such illiteracy/ignorance in modern world (is unrealistic)
Man, you must have lead a
very sheltered life if you believe that such things don't happen in the modern world.
They do, a lot. That too in big metropolitan cities.
I used to work for an NGO (which focused on providing education to poor children, among other things). I've seen it first hand.
Actually, compared to some of the things that I have seen, people I've met (in, and outside, my work for NGOs), this film presents a very rose tinted view of the actual world (if you see this movie as a representation of the world, instead of just a story of a poor family).
To answer the OP: Yes, bribing to get away with murder does happen. I've met two murderers (that I know of) in my life. One of them had a case booked against him, went to court, but walked, even though there may have been enough evidence to put him behind bars for long. He didn't tell me exactly what he did to make that happen (I didn't even ask, he had just started talking about murder out of the blue), but he did tell me that bribing the right people (including the police) was a part of it.
As for having the media over before a hanging, I've never heard of such a thing happening.
AFC to PUA. That's the dream.
