Is baseball better?

The one question that this film really did not get into. While the bravery of Curt Flood's effort is apparent to everyone, the results of how positively it effected the game are in question.

In 1970 the owners argued against Flood's demands because parody in the game would suffer. Large cities would aquire all the best players, and this has happened. The NY Yankess payroll is over $200 mil while KC Royals is less than $40 mil in 2011.

How does this effect the fans in small cities? How many young kids will follow a team like the Royals who just can not compete with the NY Yankess?

I will arque that the fan base suffers when the parody of the game gets out of wack. Young kids in smaller baseball cities will just not follow a losing team or get excited about baseball.

I don't think free agency in baseball is the problem. I think the problem is the lack of a hard salary cap. The so-called tax that baseball has in place now is just a joke to wealthy franchises like the Yankees and Red Sox.

MLB doesn't want small market unpopular teams in the playoffs or World Series. Rating go down big time and so does revenue. So MLB caters to the big money Sox, Yankees, California, etc teams.

Guess that explains why the Cardinals have been in the World Series three times in the last 10 years.

If what you say was true, the Yankees and Dodgers would be in the Series every year. Not to mention the third largest market Cubs, would have made numerous appearances since 1945, instead of zero.
