When Worlds Collide

Do a bit of searching, sounds like "When Worlds Collide" from 1951.
By the way, look-up on IMDB "When Worlds Collide" that is being remade for 2012.

Seems like all the disaster movies always seem to hit a major city.
I think the only two that didn't hit a major city was H.G. Wells story as broadcast over the radio by Orson Welles on October 30, 1938 was "The War of the Worlds", the town named in this radio presentation was Grover's Mill, New Jersey.
And The Blob which was filmed in and around Valley Forge, Pennsylvania back in the late 50s.

Too bad they don't pick Lorain, Ohio to film in, plenty of vacant buildings along the main street in town "Broadway Ave." and plenty of out of work people could be used as extras.
