Do you need to watch the trilogy in order?

I understand that this is the completion of a trilogy. But is this more of a thematic trilogy is a narrative trilogy like The Godfather where the story continues and you have to watch from the beginning?

Thanks

There's no interlinking story between the parts of the trilogy and not much connexion except emotionally between many parts of the individual films (you'll find big debates about what connexions and whether there are connexions on the discussion boards). I think it's probably better to watch them in sequence so you can see Andersson's technique and interests develop, because there are differences from one film to another, but it won't spoil your appreciation much if you don't.
Don't expect films like The Godfather films, though. Andersson is very different - in fact, there can't be many film-makers less like each other than Andersson and Coppola. Just remember:
There are nine and sixty ways
Of constructing tribal lays
And every single one of them is right.

Even more so with films.

No, it's not a continuous narrative.

thematic trilogy. with ath said, the experience is best if watched in order. the last film's end kinda concludes the trilogy as it goes out with a bang.
