Very cliche and unrealistic

As most people here I was very excited for a WW2 series from a german perspective, this mini series was also in my country (Sweden) marketed as the german "Band of Brothers". In most cases, foreign movies tend to be more authentic, original and believeable then the avarage american hollywood movie with its plots and dialogue.

Band of Brothers was a great serie because of its realism in plots and dialogue, not to mention directing and intense action, and I couldnt wait to see a German one (because lets face it, the war from the german soldiers perspective was much more cruel and dramatic than the allies of ww2).

Heres the point: I was very let down by this. The serie was extremely cliche and unrealistic. There were so many near-impossible events taking place that just made you cringe and it was hard to take the serie anymore serious then The Avengers. . Near-impossible "meetings" of main and second characters kept occuring. The characters kept surviving in impossible situations, kept making magical teleportations from one sticky situation into complete safety. The action did not make up for it either (as it should have, come on it was the eastern front)! The action scenes were poor, probably not because of budget but just poor editing and directing. It was impossible to relate to the soldiers condition as band of brothers suceeded in, even tho the german perspective should have been even greater, especially in the biting russian climate.
The dialogue was something of a let-down. It did not feel autentic at all. I am well aware that a lot of germans were not nazies, and most soldiers in the german army were conscripts fighting for their nation, bu there was just too much obvious modern day moralism going on then what would have been said back in those days.

In the end, this mini serie felt very much like a hollywood product in german. It was very far from Der Untergang, Das Boot in terms of quality.
