Will This Be The First of James Franco's Directing Projects To Be Seen?

James Franco seems to make ambitious directorial projects, none of which seem to be widely seen. This one looks different. It looks more comedic with actors who do well at the box office. Could this have more mainstream appeal than 'Child of God' or 'As I Lay Dying' or is this just gonna be another arthouse flop that Franco directs as a film school project?

Yes, to be honest, to me it looks like a BIG THING. It's a comedy which I believe is the specialty of all the cast and crew involved, and it certainly has a story, since it's adapted from a well-known and appreciated book, though I haven't read it. Secondly, I've seen the clip (5-minute leaked clip) of Vikar (James Franco) and the Burglar (Craig Robinson) - the cinematography looks spot on, it was definitely interesting, and was delightful to watch. One thing to note though, was that it wasn't one of those very awkward, joke-filled type of comedy like the other projects James has done, like "The Interview", "This is The End", "Pineapple Express", it looks more of a serious film which James chose to portray as a sort of grim, dark-comedy type. His role was nothing like any of his previous roles, which for me, is a good thing. But this is all from the clip I saw. Now it all depends for its success, on the marketing. I believe good marketing or bad marketing will bring the ultimate difference to the film, and define its overall success. I hope and pray this project blooms, because of all the star studded cast, it will be an ABSOLUTE TREAT to watch. I want your views on this though.

Depends if it even ever comes out. It's taking so long.

Anyone know any updates?

Child of God from what I recall was a man taking a dump and preparing to rape a corpse..so yes I will assume anything would have more mass appeal than whatever that was.
