Total rip-off SPOILERS

This is a total rip-off of another movie!
The setting is different but the plot twist is a total steal from
SPOILERS

The Others, starring Nicole Kidman, even to the point where the woman uses a gun. In The Others Nicole Kidman used a shotgun to kill herself and her kids after her husband left for WW1, here Sarah Shahi kills herself and Milo Ventimiglia after she gets drunk and let's their son drown in a swimming pool.
Both of them are hunted in their own houses by people who don't seem to hurt them and there's instances where they try to leave the house and are enveloped in thick fog. Even the part with the graves buried under fallen leaves is stolen!
I did enjoy the movie and some of the acting was good but. I would've enjoyed it more if I hadn't seen The Others :-/

It was a rip off but to me it was not a good one.

The Others is also a rip-off/remake of an episode of the UK series Armchair Theatre from 1970 called, surprise, The Others.
See also Voices from 1973.

the script for this movie was completed and floating around studios including [dimension] before the likes of the others and the strangers
plus the others sucked
the strangers was pretty good
but i respect your opinion of not liking this film
to be honest i love this movie

reply

I liked this too, granted I only watched it for Milo Ventimiglia. I haven't seen The Others, but I knew the gist of the plot. I figured early on, that Rachel was there to help them, and then when Jonathan takes the mask off and he sees his hand, that's when I really knew. Plus, I had read beforehand there was a twist so I figured it had to be something like that.

I don't understand many 'rip-off' complaints that some posters make on IMDB.

IF the entire point of a movie centers on the 'twist' ending and a very specific type of twist (aka Sixth Sense or The Others or The Other or Carnival of Souls or Kwaidan/The Black Hair [all movies I enjoy] etc. etc. etc.), well the complaint, I suppose, may be valid IF a subsequent movie follows course in similar fashion, and, if that twist ending is pretty much a main objective.

Otherwise, there is a hardly an 'original' story. And some movies also handle similar issues differently, with different characters, exploration of those characters, etc.

I would rather watch to see *how* filmmakers handle a theme (whether the theme is 'original' or not) and the various 'what ifs' explored, if it's well-written, how the actors do, the filming style, etc.

There have been oodles of stories and films done that people like more than one of, with similar themes and sometimes similar story arcs all the way to the end, regarding such issues as time travel, divorce, zombies, murder, etc.

I wonder if many folks cut their teeth on Sixth Sense that, for them, has created some unrealistic expectations and focus regarding 'needing' an unexpected 'gotcha moment'.

If so, one can miss the forest for the trees.

Just my 2 cents! 
