Blacklisted?

Just read an article about Chloe Moretz signing to the cast tat mentioned the film was blacklisted. Details, anyone?

"I hit the *beep* brain!"

It was on the 2011 Screenwriting Black List. That's a good thing. It means it was voted as one of the best unproduced screenplays floating around Hollywood.

reply

Yeah. I read the script and thought it was pretty good. It's a different take on zombie apocalypse where it happens more like a disease that slowly(over months) rots your body and turns you into a zombie.

reply

I agree, this was a very powerful script, it had me in tears at the end (Not gonna lie). That's the first script to EVER make me feel that way before. I'm definitely looking forward to it when it comes out in theaters. I really do hope Chloe Moretz does this, it could win her an oscar if done right!

These saints put my father on his knees!

Where did you guys read the script? Could you send me a link or email it to me?

Couldn't agree more. Absolutely fantastic script!

reply

Please tell us how you have managed to read the script?

Please tell us how you have managed to read the script?

I have a feeling they'll never tell.

When you are not concerned with succeeding, you can work with complete freedom.

Zombie Apocalypse?
What does Maggie have to do with the story if someone would tell me?
:)

reply

Jesus Christ. Will someone in Hollywood come up with an original idea? Zombies are so played out right now. Please someone be original.

If you can do better, start writing and submitting scripts

and just by the fact that you wrote that proves that you have never tried to sell a screenplay.

Maggie is Arnold daughter and she slowly turns into a zombie. Arnold stays by her side.

rct82, Maggie is a very original script. Just because it has "Zombies" in it doesn't mean it's not original. And just an FYI, the actual script never calls them zombies. That's just how the media describes the film for the masses to get the general idea of the film. It's far more in depth than that.

Swarzenegger will be the father role

Though a grandfather role would be more plausible.

If you're referring to the Screenwriting "Black List" - that is just about the BEST thing that could ever happen to you. It means that it is one of the most passed around, talked about, unproduced works available and the bidders will soon come barking at your door.

The "black list" for screenwriters is their version of the Oscars. All the hype minus the trophies. It's like scaling Everest naked, with a gimpy leg and one good eye.

Most if not all are "spec" scripts and were unsolicited. Just works that people threw down in a fit of boredom, or inspiration. Works that have yet to be picked up, but the more popular on the "black list", the more buzz will surround it, and by the time you and I read about it on that list - all the major studios are already finalizing negotiations with the writer(s). This isn't to say that 100% of them will end up in production, or even bought...but the best of the best on that list will generate HUGE buzz and be snapped up sooner or later.

Some of the best known movies started out on the "Black List".

- I ain't better than you - you're just inferior.

Strangely a lot of these blacklist films tend to be duds when they eventually get made!

Its that man again!!

reply

usually because by the time they get made, they are obsolete. Perfect example is Phone Booth. That screenplay was floating around forever and it finally got pushed into production just as cellphones were becoming huge and actual phone booths were disappearing- in fact, they had to amend the story to make it "one of the last remaining phone booths in New York".

Besides, a spec script is often well written with plot points and set ups and rewards and everything nicely balanced and that's the screenplay they greenlight, but then the director has his writer take a stab at it, and then the lead actor brings in his writer to make his part fit better, and that makes the co-star ask for another rewrite to beef up his part, and then the first director walks and the second director-- who happens to be Ridley Scott- so that means it's a complete rebuild from the bottom up... and on and on it goes until, the film that finally hits theaters is basically just the title of the original screenplay but everything else is completely different. That's why they're duds.
