Not Great, But an Interesting Premise

This movie is stupid, silly, dumb, and still found a way to make me laugh. There are some really insightful moments in this film and some comedic gems. The obscene crows and the obnoxious locusts (SUFFFFEEER!) are a few. The opening sequence in slow motion of empty clothes falling to the ground during the Rapture is effective. The rocks falling from the sky and the reason for Lindsey's mom being unraptured are pretty hilarious as well. There is some great writing here, but it just misses the mark.

Anna Kendrick is definitely a worthy heroine. She and John Daley have a nice chemistry as they try and deal with the coming end of the world. Craig Robinson's Antichrist is played poorly, however. Craig's a funny actor, but the overly sexualized Beast character really screws with the pacing of the plot when he appears. IMO they should have had the Beast be more charming and smooth to make Lindsey actually consider being with him (think Julian McMahon's Victor von Doom from the Fantastic Four). It would have made for some interesting interplay instead of him just being a buffoon. In the scenes where he's not making sexual jokes, his character is really funny (like how he has trouble controlling his own offspring or the way his guards suck up to him.

The supporting characters were pretty impressive for such a small film. Rob Corddry, Thomas Lennon, Ana Gasteyer and John Michael Higgins all contribute with their smaller roles. Even Paul Scheer and Tyler Labine pop up in cameos. Not to be left out, Mr. I'm-In-Every-Movie, Ken Jeong, has a weird cameo.

The ending of the movie is why I gave it high marks. No one has every really tackled the idea of what happens if the Bible prophesies are wrong or don't happen. What if "The Plan" goes awry and everything religious folks have been waiting for since 33 A.D. goes kaput?

Lastly, Jesus' all too brief appearance is probably the part I laughed at most. That was just funny and wrong at the same time.

My memory foam pillow says it can't remember my face. I can tell its lying.
