Rated R for strong sexual content?

I must have watched a completely different movie then

Anything gay related, they bump up the rating and say sexual content.

Yep, gay people exist = R rating.

Though I suppose that threeway kiss Sarah Hyland was in at the prom might have earned an R rating on its own, there was probably a lot of pearl clutching going on at the MPAA.

Basically if portrays gay teenagers and mentions sex it's an auto R rating. Same thing happened with GBF recently (which has even less sex related dialogue and is more about the gay teen being treated like an accessory)....rating system's odd that way.

It's especially ironic given that there was more physical contact between the gay character and the straight girl than there was between the gay guy and his boyfriend. His best friend gives his big speech about how every one is the same, gay or straight, then they should two kisses supposedly mirroring each other. Except that one kiss is up close and twice as long, whereas the other is shot further away and lasts 3 seconds. Guess which one?
I wouldn't have minded (or actually noticed for that matter) if it hadn't come after that speech and had been cut in with the straight kiss. It just made it glaring.

I did like the film though, it just seems like there are still massive restrictions on the most innocent of interactions when it comes to gay characters, yet straight characters can be as gross as they want.
