Doctor Strange more popular than Batman now

how that happen ?

reply

It didn’t

reply

try again , third tier marvel character makes more money

reply

Moneys not the be all and end all if that’s the only thing you are comparing to. Also it’s a marvel film. Some People don’t look further than that

reply

Except Black Widow, Eternals, and Shang Chi all underperformed, and Morbius flopped, so clearly people look farther than the Marvel logo.

And how about the fact that Aquaman, another DC hero, made more money than Batman? Frickin’ Aquaman! Something’s wrong here.

reply

Money isn’t everything like I said. A lot of people download movies from PB and other torrent sites so there’s no track on popularity if your only using money as your gauge. The latest Batman has been very well received by critics and audiences. Aqua man was deemed a good movie but nothing like what the Batman got

I agree that money isn't everything, it certainly doesn't judge the quality of a movie, but it can be an indicator of people's interest in certain movies. "The Batman" may have gotten good reviews, and $700 million isn't bad, but compared to previous Batman films and even BvS, it's underwhelming, and this is Batman we're talking about, a certified cash cow.

The Amazing Spider-Man films made more than that, and they were still cancelled in favor of the MCU Spider-Man movies. I'm not saying the Battinson films will be cancelled, I'm suggesting that interest in Batman seems to be waning. You know something's gotta be wrong when more people were interested in watching Aquaman than Batman (or Superman for that matter).

reply

I agree that money doesn't make a movie better... obviously Avatar is not the best movie ever made, but the title of this post was 'popularity'... and it does seem like Doctor Strange is currently more popular than Batman (at least this version).

Piracy is available for both movies, so whatever effect it has on box office it is the same for both.

reply

It would stand to reason the those downloads would also apply to Dr strange.

reply

Is it possible that people weren't that excited to watch a stick figure to play Emo Batman.

reply

lol

The younger generation are more into the MCU and that's where most of these boxoffice grosses come from. But The Batman still did good coin.

reply

It's embarassing.

It's hard to reconcile how Batman is now getting outgrossed by Dr. Strange (I had no fucking idea that character existed before these MCU films) and Aquaman. Batman is arguably the premiere top selling superhero. He was always one of the top dogs, the elite of the elite.

Letting Reeves make a Batman film for depressed, edgy 15 year old boys was a huge mistake. If your favorite color is murky brown, you hate any fun and entertainment and you love listening to depressing tunes, this if the film for you.

The American audience is not a good way to measure how good a movie actually is. Some really bad movies are quite popular in the US...just look at The Rise of Skywalker...complete sh!t movie that made lots of money.

reply

Eh, a lot of major movies were saved by over-seas profits, including Star Wars, so American audiences are no less guilty than everyone else for contributing to Rise of Skywalker's box office. Besides, Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker made only half of what Force Awakens made, so clearly a lot of people were smart enough not support the rest of the sequel trilogy.

Nonetheless, declining interest in Batman is a problem. If Spider-Man can still bring in cash despite going through multiple reboots in a short amount of time, Batman has no excuse to not do the same.

reply

Like most of these blockbusters, Rise of Skywalker made more money in the foreign market than America.

reply

By that logic Fast and the Furious or the Michael Bay Transformers films must be masterpieces as they made a lot of money.
