They don't get it.

Again...they cram 3 villains into a Batman movie.

Why not just Batman vs penguin?

reply

They just used all their villains in one movie, not smart. Unless this will just be a stand alone with no sequels.

reply

Only The Riddler and The Penguin are the principal villians... The rest are just there in minor roles to give Batman easy foes to squash

reply

Catwoman in a minor role and easy to squash? Not a chance. Again, they'll give her a backstory, then she will be a villain, but also an ally to Batman against the 2 others.

reply

I wasn't counting her as a villain since she'll end up becoming an ally to Batman

reply

I expect Catwoman will be an ally and love interest from the start in this movie with Riddler and Penguin as main villains, and Falcone shoved in as a supporting villain.

I doubt we'll get much backstory to the villains, they are well known enough already with normies which may work out in the scripts favour, if we don't have to watch origins of the bad guys all over again.

Why not just Batman vs Penguin? Exactly right! Maybe it doesn't matter, because if this doesnt sell they will just do another reboot.

This movie should have been with Ben Affleck. I'm so sick of reboots. It's like find your Batman, and stick with him for a while. Same problem with Spiderman. Just a few years after Maguire was done they reboot it, and then just a few years after the Andrew Garfield reboot it's rebooted again.

It seems they are going with the quantity overy quality approach here. More villians means each one will probably end up being an underdeveloped cardboard character. Some of the casting choices are odd to. Why cast a thin 5'10 guy as the penguin, instead of a short fat one? Why cast a middle aged guy as Alfred and not an old guy? Why cast Zoe Kravitz over a white actress like Megan Fox or Kat Dennings?

reply

After the failings of Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice and Justice League there was no salvaging Ben Affleck's Batman. Obviously the blame can not be placed on him but wiping the slate clean is the best way to go. The reason Hugh Jackman could continue with the Wolverine role so long was because the foundation of him starting out was good. Ben Affleck literally had two terrible movies he began starring in. Also I am honestly sick of old Batman. We have gotten that since TDKR. I like that we are also movie away from the whole shared universe thing as well. I just want Batman mythos in my Batman film. The fact that we are getting a young prime Batman without doing his origin story is amazing in my book.

Look I get they were trying to cash in on the Avengers hype train but honestly Marvel did it well now that concept has lost it's novelty for me. I much prefer more personal stories that just deal with the character at hand, cramming in all other heroes while fun just takes away some of the narrative for me. Don't take this as I did not enjoy Endgame and infinity war I did I am just over the team up thing now. Personally I am excited about this film for a few reasons.

The director choice is great. Matt Reeves is a visual director that can tell a great engaging story. Watch his work on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the planet of the apes. The visuals on those films are breath taking, but more importantly he crafted an engaging story with those films. Second the casting is spot on in my book. No lame uninspired picks that feel like they are trying to bank off of a name.

The past two Alfreds have been old, at this point why not change it up? Zoe Kravitz is a talented actress and is not so uninspired. Megan Fox as Catwoman? Are we thinking with who will perform the role well and truly be engaging or who we think nothing beyond will look good in leather? Zoe Kravitz is beautiful but has some talent to back it up.

reply

Good points.

Ben Aflect never acts in anything and is terrible. Batman is a very emotional character because it's what makes him do all the stuff he does and Ben looks like he's a zombie, for years in every film. It's bizarre.

I'm starting to hate these rapid reboots, but you can't have Aflect. I swear me must have mob connections or something because he should have disappeared long ago.

However, I have a feeling this will suck and I will see any Batman or Superman film.

reply

I honestly have never been a big Ben Affleck fan. I do not hate him or anything I just never felt he was a great actor. Now like I said a lot of the failings of Batman V Superman and Justice League's failing can't be placed on him. In his defense the script and direction for those films is atrocious. It wouldn't have mattered who you got to play Batman in those films, those films still would have been awful.

I hate reboots as much as the next guy, however in this case it had to be done. You can not build off of a bad foundation. BVS and Justice League were awful foundations.

I personally am optimistic about this movie. I love Matt Reeves as a director.

reply

Yeah, I hate Ledger's Joker, but that wasn't him it was the writing and director.

However, an actor like Aflect, had he known his subject, could have said that he wanted to bring more intensity and they would have let him.

But, I agree with you.

reply

You hate Ledger's Joker? I am curious why?

reply

I am a comics fan and have even researched where the characters come from and I think it's very interesting.

The Joker is based on a Victor Hugo (Les Miserables) story called, The Man Who Laughs.

The main character was a rich kid kidnapped by gypsies. His face was mutilated to have a smile fixed on it. Such kids were real and used for begging purposes, give me money for my mutilated kid, is the hustle.

So, this kid grows up and all kinds of terrible things happen to him, and he is forced to smile through it all. So, he is forced to laugh at all of life's horrible jokes.

Hugo was always for poor and unfortunate people and he disliked how people have to endure all kinds of crap and try to be cheerful through it.

So, the Joker is a character like this, but evil. He makes terrible things happen and finds them funny. Joker is an insane manic person. Back in the 1930s and 40s, when the character was invented, a "Joker" was an insult for a person who was always laughing at stuff that wasn't funny but rotten. So a guy might say, "That fucking Joker laughed when that old lady fell down the stairs" because he sees there's something perverted about that guy.

I have a history working in psych with criminals and have actually seen Joker type criminals in real life. I had been warned by other criminals to watch out for people with "the giggles" because usually they are very dangerous.

So, The Joker is rooted in a book, that's a comment on life, and a type of asshole, and real criminals. It's a person who, in psych, is Manic or Hypomanic. The Joker has symptoms of extreme mania.

Ledger's Joker was terrible because he was calm, which makes zero sense, and has a largely very rational point of view called Nihilism. The director is stupid because he thinks this is realistic but as I've said, I have seen real Joker like gangsters. Anyway, Ledger's Joker literally has nothing in common with the character.

If they ever do the real character, he will be chilling.

I read 500 books by the time I was 16.

You can look everything I said up or you can congratulate me for doing the work for you, lol.

reply

LMAO...ITS COOL SHELDON.

reply

Only 500?

reply

I couldn't fit one more in at the time, lol.

I had a room filled with books and a massive comic collection too.

reply

See this is a critique I guess I just do not understand. I get not enjoying him but the thing is your dislike is rooted in you not getting what you wanted. To me it translates to okay if it does not follow the original source it is by default bad. In all honesty there are only a a few comic book films that follow the source very closely. Sin City was one of the few comic book films that put the comic book on the screen. Thing is this rarely ever happens.

What you are saying does sound like it has a lot of potential. I knew Joker was based off of the man who laughs. Thing is I do not think that because this is not followed that it by default makes it bad.

reply

Batman v Superman was a great movie, way better than Civil War. Justice Leage was kind of a mess though.

reply

"Why cast Zoe Kravitz over a white actress like Megan Fox or Kat Dennings?"

DUDE....REALLY?

reply

Batman and Catwoman have chemistry.

There is no reason why Batman should like Catwoman at all, she is a psychotic sociopath like all of his enemies. So, you have to have an actress that ANYONE would want to have and be attracted to, or it will fail.

Most people aren't that attracted to black girls, even black guys. You rarely see a white guy, black girl, combo in real life. Ironically, my uncle married a black woman when I was a kid, and they got along great, so it does happen. But, not too often.

In the 60s comedy Batman, Julie Newmar was in the "holy fuck" range of sexy and that sold it. Before her there was a black woman, Eartha Kit and she was rather ugly and good for playing a villain, but there is no way you could sell a romance. Michelle Pfifer played a more crazy character so not sexy. The girl in the Nolan one was boring and not close to being Catwoman anyway.

So, you need a very sexy athletic girl if there's to be romance. If not then anyone can play her.

reply

"Most people aren't that attracted to black girls, even black guys."

I DONT KNOW IF YOURE FOR REAL OR NOT...BUT YOU CRACK ME UP.

reply

It is an actual sociological problem in that community.

There have been books written about it.

reply

Google: black men not attracted to black women

You will find lots to read.

I have for twenty years been one of the few white people working in the black community. I have heard and read about this stuff all day long.

I have had black guys directly ask me if it was okay to date white women and their problems with black women.

Stop being bourgeois and get out and meet people.

MMMKAY

reply

It's a very interesting subject.

I could go into the subject deeply which would be disturbing.

reply

Protip: it's already disturbing. The fact that you (clearly) don't get that is the least surprising thing in recorded history.

Get out of your house. Experience life. Broaden your horizons. Just, for the love of all of us: back away from the keyboard, slowly.

We thank you.

reply

A cowardly and empty response from a basementdweller.

reply

Not surprisingly, you have your own very special definitions for words. Like "cowardly," and "empty."

Regardless, no need to repeat any of your stupidity. You can go now.

No, really.

reply

Thank's shithead, you have continued to say nothing, because you have nothing to say, but are just a bitch who has to have the last word.

That's cowardly and empty.

reply

I said plenty. Again: it's not surprising you don't understand any of it. Someone who doesn't understand "cowardly," "empty," or the difference between "Thank's" and "thanks" is clearly incapable of wrapping their head around the fact that (a) race is a social construct, and (b) your claims are so wildly inaccurate, they're not even offensive. One would have to take you seriously for that.

So: while there's no need for you to contribute any more lunacy, it *has* been fascinating to watch you tilt your head back and bray absurdities.

Just sayin'.

reply

You aren't saying anything.

You don't talk about the topic, you talk about me.

reply

LOL: So you agree that talking about you is talking about nothing. Check: we're finally on the same page.

For all your deficiencies as a polemicist, you are at least candid.

reply

Yawn.

reply

Sorry but I could not disagree more with this. Zoe Kravitz is stunning, talented actress and is athletic. Race is not essential to Catwoman's character. Her being beautiful, emotionally engaging, as well as athletic is what the role requires. Zoe fits all of these.

reply

I don't know her from much.

I like her mom a lot and her dad is unintentionally comical.

I'm just saying in general. In Spiderman, that was horrible. MJ is a curvy knockout redhead that Peter shouldn't be able to get, but he does because he's a great guy and she's a dream come true. Meanwhile, they cast a black girl who honestly has the face of a caveman, zero charisma, and they don't look like a couple, lol.

If the two actors can pull it off, great. If Catwoman is just an enemy, great. The Spiderman thing was casting just to cast this girl in a part, which is crazy. It detracts from the film.

Edit: I don't find her stunning and wouldn't be attracted to her in real life no matter what.

I like pale white or Asian girls. I have never found a black girl attractive sexually. I can see that they can be ascetically well formed, but not "dreamy" like I could fall in love.

I think that's the case with many males.

On the other hand, I find Rosario Dawson very attractive, but see seems part hispanic. She has more feminine features than a lot of women though.

reply

She was in X-men First Class, Dope, Mad Max Fury Road as well as Big Little Lies.

I honestly think in the case of Spider-man they change things for the sake of change. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

reply

She didn't stand out because I don't recall her from those movies.

reply

Ah well she has talent. I think she will be a great catwoman.

reply

well said

reply

Bruce Wayne's parents were killed by a thief, Batman falls in love with a thief, that's the beauty of it, I doubt it was intentionally set up that way back in the Golden Age, but that's how it is nowadays she became his main romantic interest over the years, and it works.

reply

That's cool.

You just have to sell that would happen to Batman.

He is a very unhappy character who hates crime to the degree that he does all of this, so you have to really sell that he would love or want to help such a woman.

reply

Spiderman I understand, sony has the rights in a limited way so all they can do beyond giving the rights back to Disney is regurgitate the same thing over and over. But it would be nice if batman just swapped actors and carried on the way they did after the first Tim Burton Batman.

reply

If you made improvements to the Burton movies, that would be a great idea.

What we need is a DCU science fiction Batman that is full out Batman.

People love that in the comics and they will love it in the movies. Batman is a science fiction genius inventor who is a ninja Sherlock Holmes. Just make that fucking movie already!
