Wokeness rising: blackwashed Gordon and Selina Kyle

That doesn't look good...

reply

A black Catwoman has precedent in live action.

reply

Well, then we have black Seline Kyle and black Lt. Gordon in the movie (and black clone Alfred in the series).

Not to say Alfred in the movie is played by Andy Serkis, an actor that gives a nasty and vicious chill to his characters. It seems they're gonna make good old Alfred the usual white cuck archetype in modern Hollywood. And not to say the villains are all white males: Riddler, Falcone, Penguin... here there's no blackwashing, no femwashing.

It seems that the only decent white male in the movie left is gonna be Pattinson.

Wokeness rising.

reply

You mean the hero is a white male? You should lead with that, rather than making it a footnote.

reply

Half of the positive characters are black. The villains, as usual, are all white.

reply

Interesting. Isn’t Catwoman technically a villain?

reply

She's an antihero(ine).

reply

Yes, the film "Catwoman" starring Halle Berry was wonderful, and received high critical praise as well.

reply

Are you forgetting the 60’s Batman TV show?

reply

In what universe is a 9% RT score receiving high critical praise?

https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/catwoman

reply

he was being sarcastic you idiot

reply

I liked that movie.

reply

Eartha Kitt played Catwoman three decades before that stupid movie.

reply

The black catwoman was just more pandering to the liberals back when Eartha played the role. Look at the times back in 60's it wasn't done because she was the best actress for the part it was part pandering and part publicity stunt. In that case it worked in spite of the decision... but then Newmar wasn't a very good catwoman.. Oh hell let's be honest it was a cheesy crap show that was created for little kids so why take it seriously.

Now if you want serious examples that only came with the Halle version that proved to be one of the worst movies ever made... The question is then if the public didn't want a black catwoman when it was played by an academy award winning actress that happens to be black... what makes them think the public want ANY black catwoman. The reality is a comic book character that has been around for more than 50 years resonates in the fans minds as strongly as a real person like Martin Luther King resonates, and just as no one would want to see MLK played by a white guy, the people that would want to see a catwoman movie are apt to want to see a white one like they grew up with in the comics.

That's the reason all these race swapping and gender swapping movies don't work. People are familiar with the characters and don't want them changed from what they expect. Does anyone think making a Shaft movie staring someone like Jackie Chan would make sense? Of course not, even though Shaft is fictional he is also expected to be black. It has nothing to do with people being racist and everything to do with people wanting to see things the way they remembered them and not have to deal with some jarring change like the race of the character suddenly being different or the guy suddenly being a woman.

reply

"Does anyone think making a Shaft movie staring someone like Jackie Chan would make sense?"

. . .I would watch the F$!K out of that!!!!!!!

reply

Understood, but would you watch it if Shaft were played by Nicolas Cage?

reply

"the people that would want to see a catwoman movie are apt to want to see a white one like they grew up with in the comics"

That's one huge assumption. I'm a fan and I couldn't care less if the actress playing Catwoman was white, black, brown, or any shade in between. If she looks hot in the catsuit and can act a bit, what does it even matter?

reply

Well if you don't care, but comic fans do care then the only logical answer is to stick to white since people like you would see it either way and people like me want it to stick to white as it was. And that's from a non-white comic fan so don't start yapping that I'm some white power nutter, cause that's off base.

reply

I didn't assume you were white but you seem to be assuming I'm trying to pick a fight here. I'm really not. I just don't think it's right to insinuate that all comic book fans are so hung up on the skin colour of actors chosen to play these characters. Is there anything specific about Catwoman that would make casting a black woman culturally insensitive?

Perhaps it's because I was first introduced to Catwoman through the 60s Batman TV series and it was a black woman portraying her then. I do wonder if that caused such a ruckus at the time or if people were a little less precious about these things back then. It's weird, we seem more concerned about diverse casting now then we did back then when it was a real rarity.

I respect your opinion but to me this casting is almost insignificant and certainly nothing to lose sleep over.

reply

Would it be culturally insensitive to cast Jason Momoa as Spawn? To me it isn't a matter of cultural insensitivity it is just that I am tired of producers/directors doing diversity casting to fulfill some unwritten diversity quota. If a character was originally black then keep that character black, if the character was white then keep it white. If this was a first one off then I wouldn't really give a flip, but after seeing so many diversity castings happen and often in ridiculous ways that I'm just tired of it... so rather than say will maybe they had a real good reason to swap genders or swap races, I just want it to stop.

Perfect examples of the stupidity was the Fantastic Four where the brother and sister are suddenly cast as a white girl and a black guy... How the hell does that make any sense or get justified beyond pandering to the diversity at all cost crowd.

As for the reaction of Kitt in the Batman show, no one really cared about it because the show was aimed at kids and was dropping in the ratings at the time they made the switch. Although the official reason for the switch was because the original catwoman was doing another show that conflicted with batman, it was rumored that she was swapped because the rating had dropped and they wanted someone cheaper which makes more sense as Burgess Meredith was in Batman and also had a part in the same show that they claimed was the reason Catwoman was replaced. In the end you can never really know why they did what they did back then.

reply

" If a character was originally black then keep that character black, if the character was white then keep it white."

MAYBE THEY COULD MAKE LITTLE SIGNS TO KEEP IT STRAIGHT....WHITES ONLY , BLACKS ONLY AND SO FORTH.

reply

Perhaps it's because I was first introduced to Catwoman through the 60s Batman TV series and it was a black woman portraying her then. I do wonder if that caused such a ruckus at the time or if people were a little less precious about these things back then. It's weird, we seem more concerned about diverse casting now then we did back then when it was a real rarity.

It's concerning precisely because it has become systematic and almost mandatory.

There's a difference between the occasional whitewashing or blackwashing of a character. Damn, Much Ado About Nothing is one of my favorite movies, and Brannagh casted Denzel Washington to play a white character. But it's and old movie, it doesn't feel political, more like Brannagh thought he'd be the right actor. And he was right, Washington is absolutely brilliant in the role.

However, now that's more like a political/religious thing, making the positive characters black or female, while keeping the villains or the cucks as white males. It's not a rarity, it's widespread, and it shows a clear political/religious agenda.

reply

Why? What's wrong with having black actors playing those roles? As long as they do a good job, that is all that matters. I wouldn't care if all the characters in the movie were black, as long as it is an entertaining, well acted film.

reply

Sure let's make movies where Martin Luther King, Blade, Mohammed Ali, and Barack Obama are all played by white people..I'm sure you wouldn't care.

reply

Martin Luther King, Mohammed Ali, and Barack Obama are real, historical people. Batman is a fictional character. Fictional characters can be played by any race. It shouldn't matter. If you have a problem with Batman, Superman, James Bond, the little Mermaid, Cinderella, or any other fictional character being played by a non-white person, then you are likely racist.

reply

So we'll see Black Panther recast as a white guy, isn't it?

Ah, no, we won't.

reply

DENSE AS FUCK.

reply

We know you are. You didn’t have to call attention to it by using all caps.

reply

I THOUGHT IT OVER AND YOU ARE COMPLETELY RIGHT...SO SORRY.MAY I OFFER YOU A HANDJOB TO MAKE UP FOR IT?

reply

[deleted]

WHY KOWALSKI AND CONSISTENCY BE AT ALL RELATED?

reply

I want to see Blade played by Brad Pitt.

reply

No, I have a problem with characters in stories where their race/creed is well known being played by someone who is not in line with the portrayal of the character in the story. I'd have to same problem if a white person played Blade, Falcon, Iron Patriot, Storm, or Spawn. So shove your "likely racist" up your wrinkled corn hole.

reply

First, and most important of all, my corn hole is not wrinkled. Second, even if the race of the character is well known, it doesn't mean that they can't change the race of a fictional character. Third, what I said is usually correct and I stand by it. People who get upset about traditionally white characters being played by a black person are likely racist.

reply

So do you have a problem if a white person played Blade, Falcon, Iron Patriot, Storm or Spawn?

reply

No, I don’t. As long as it is a well made film and the actor does a good job, the race of a fictional character shouldn’t matter.

reply

You don't have an issue, but imagine the media shit storm that would ensue if John Cena was cast as Spawn?

reply

In the medias eyes and the blue checkmarks on Twitter.

White to Black = Progressive, inclusive, diversity
Black to White = Racist

Doesn't matter the context of the story, character, source material, history.

Those above are the only 2 rules that apply.

reply

[deleted]

I wasn't aware batman was a real historical figure. ill have to recheck my history text books

reply

Good so then no one will have a problem when the Boondocks is redrawn with white people.

reply

no. I don't care. im not a fragile conservative.

reply

Sorry it wouldn't be conservatives rioting if you did it, it would be SJW liberals.

reply

you have literally been crying and whining this whole time. lol do I seem shook?

all you guys have is to play the victim

reply

LOLOL yeah ok victim? Libtards pull the victim card every day in the media.

reply

I saw him walking down the street last October. He's a lot smaller in real life.

reply

Theres definitely a double standard at play though.Theres almost always a backlash to the idea of whitewashing black characters.Im against race or gender washing popular characters in general.I love my favorite characters the way they are.I want Shaft to remain as black as James Bond is white.

reply

[deleted]

They are iconic characters, that's why.

I can describe what Jim Gordon looks like.

I could draw a pic of him.

That's when things get insulting.

PLUS IT'S ALWAYS A BLACK PERSON AND NEVER AN ASIAN INDIAN, etc. It's like they enjoy racially fucking with the audience.

reply

Well my favourite show, Doctor Who, which is at the epicenter of the anti-woke campaign it seems, recently changed a white female character (who was previously a white male in most incarnations, that is when he wasn't a slimy alien or transparent snake of unspecified gender) to one of male Indian appearance. I'm still trying to work out if that's "woke" or not.

Either way someone's bound to have a problem with it, I'm sure.

reply

Wait, Dr. Who is now Indian?!

reply

No, her arch enemy The Master is. In appearance only, the character stole the body of a secret agent. Before that he took the form of a demented Mary Poppins-like Scottish woman.

I guess my take is that it mixes it up, you never know who or what you're going to get next, which to me is more exciting than just getting a slight variation of the same thing every time.

reply

I was wondering if you meant the Master based on your slug comment.

In the US, people don't think much about Indians and there's no animosity. I know in the UK there might be still some animosity. So, it's woke if an Indian would anger people.

Anyway, I used to LOVE The Master character back in the original series. He was awesome and looked cool. Of course, in the new series, from what I saw, he was boring and not sinister enough.

That show has so much potential it's crazy.

reply

US barely has Indians (from India). UK is filled with them (from Pakistan, but they're quite the same. Worse, since they're Muslims).

And Europe doesn't have a nice experience with Indians. There was an important migration of Indians towards Europe 1000 years ago. They have been giving problems since then and never really integrated. You probably heard about them, they're called 'gypsies'. And, to give some example, in Spain they're behind a quarter of crimes.

reply

Oh I agree.

I know a lot about gypsies and have been to Eastern Europe to see them in action. They have a perverted culture and on top of that now have a black hip hop identity.

Unlike black people, they chose to move to Europe and be criminal parasites, whereas black people ended up that by accident.

Anyway, Indian people in the US are very nice and productive people. They are Hindu and not involved in much negativity.

reply

You can describe Gordon? Does your description go any further than "white guy"?

Because between the cartoons, comics, and various movies, we've seen him be old, young, middle aged, red head, brown hair, black hair, white haired, fat, feeble, damned good shape, have two kids, have one, have none, be married to various women, and sometimes glasses.

But by all means describe exactly what Gordon looks like.

reply

I just fucking said I could draw a picture of him.

If I drew one of Batman and Gordon standing next to him, you would know it's Gordon.

reply

So you have a problem with Gordon being black , ok

reply

White to Black = Progressive, inclusive, diversity
Black to White = racism

You are all hypocrites of the highest order.

reply

I have a problem with the percentages of archetypes played.

• White males you have as positive Batman himself and District Attorney Gil Colson. As negative archetypes Riddler, Falcone, Penguin and Commissioner Pete Savage. Alfred, played by Serkis, won't be the usual positive character but something nastier and more negative.

In a nutshell, white males: 28% positive characters, 57% negative characters.

Black males, you have Jim Gordon: 100% positive characters.

You could make the same calculation for every Hollywood movie and the outcome would be similar: black males play almost 100% positive charming smart characters, white males play mostly nasty psychos or cucks. Even in the Joker, when you think about it, most black characters were positive, and most white ones were negative. That's becoming a rule of this new racist Hollywood.

reply

THAT IS SOME SERIOUSLY SKEWED,UNEVEN MATH YOURE AUGMENTING TO MAKE A RIDICULOUS POINT.

reply

kuku is an appropriate name. you are an idiot and nuts

reply

Would you have a problem with Lucius Fox being played by a white actor?

reply

Absolutely not

reply

I don't have any problem neither with all the movies from the 40s and 50s that made black males the main characters.

It isn't difficult not having problems with Lucius Fox being played by a white when that hasn't ever happened (not even in the animated series) and has zero chances to happen nowadays.

reply

No it'll never happen, Lucius Fox shall always remain true to source material, and rightly so.

reply

I agree. But if he was white in the original source, chances are they would have blackwashed him by now.

reply

Yep, which is why I brought him up. Surprised he’s not in this movie tbh.

reply

Morgan Freeman already did a wonderful job with Nolan. Modern Hollywood is often about "scoring" virtue points, and you can't score what was already scored.

reply

Agreed, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine were both wonderful supporting characters in Nolan's trilogy.

reply

In my opinion, the four best acting in the trilogy were Michael Caine, Ledger, Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman. They stole their scenes.

Damn, you had guys like Liam Neeson or Tom Hardy, or Rutger Hauer, who are bloody good actors, and they were completely overshadowed.

reply

Tom Hardy was miscast for Bane.

reply

DOESNT LOOK GOOD FOR YOU..RACISM IS A BAD LOOK.

reply

Yada yada yada racist yada yada yada nazi yada yada yada white supremacist yada yada yada fascist blah blah blah.

You're quite boring with that stuff.

reply

Think i will just keep repeating this.

White to Black = Progressive, inclusive, diversity
White to Black = The skin colour has no bearing on the character so it is fine.
White to Black = It's a fictional character so it is fine.

Black to White = Racism, regardles if it is a fictional character or not.
Black to White = There skin colour and race matter so cannot be changed.

These are the excuses mostly pushed.

You are all hypocrites of the highest order. If one is racist so is the other.

reply

I wouldn’t care if a white actor played a traditionally black character. Thing is there are hardly any traditionally black characters to play.

Did anyone lose their marbles when Ashton Kutcher played the Sidney Poitier role in the Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner remake? I didn’t give a toss about that and I can’t remember anyone even mentioning it, let alone trying to convince everyone it might be the end of civilisation as we know it.

I just wish people would stop clutching at their pearls when a black actor gets a job.

reply

bet some these people supported the Charlotteville Massacre KKK punks who are stuck in the stone age

reply

You know I wouldn’t have noticed or cared about this but since it gets right up your nose I’m pretty happy about it.

Woke, woke, woke, whites under attack. Seriously, shut up. Everyone is bored.

reply

You know I wouldn’t have noticed or cared about this but since it gets right up your nose I’m pretty happy about it

I have no doubts about it. The hate towards western whites males has become widespread.

reply

I love western white males.

reply

Nope, you don't. Perhaps you like to fuck them, but that's a different story. Slave owners liked to fuck their slaves, that doesn't mean they liked them.

reply

You are a nasty piece of work.

reply

You are a nasty piece of work.

It seems I hit the nail on the head.

reply

did you forget your meds? lol when will cuckservatives stop playing victims

reply

Computing Forever's (Dave Cullen) video today draws on your concerns. Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cksfM_zVGHg

reply

Fully agree with him, as usual.

With regard to the banning of period dramas in the BBC, I think it's because London is not British anymore. You don't see Nigeria making British period dramas, because it's not their history.

British history is not the history of modern London (or BBC, for what matters). it's a different society, a different culture. Different people. It's not their history, not anymore.

reply

I quit watching dramas by the BBC ever since they cast Achilles and Zeus as sub-saharan Africans, they are as woke as Hollywood right now, but its only a matter of time before the licence fee is scrapped.

reply

The BBC is aptly named considering the socially woke porn they now produce.

reply

LOL

reply

I like Jeffrey Wright casting same with Zoe Kravitz but I don't like how Zoe Kravitz Weaponizes feminism outside of her acting a Radical liberal Like Meghan Markle is
