Is The Singing In This Remake Lackluster Compared To The Original?

Just wondering.

Heard a few people saying these three girls can't sing and have nothing on the original three.

Is it true? Does the singing actually suck or is it just different?

I say it's just different. Loved the singing in the original. So much that I hated that the studio released a soundtrack with Aretha doing all the songs. They didn't want to pay the cast decent money then Curtis Mayfield decided they could definitely make money with her.

I thought the re-worked versions of the old songs were great. I don't usually feel that way. Jordin Sparks put a hurting on that song at the end. But it should have been sung last not next to last. R Kelly did a fine job with the arrangements for the songs he wrote.

The one mistake was Whitney's version of "His Eye Is on the Sparrow". She couldn't do it justice. They could have had a choir backing her. Especially since Tamela Mann was in the film!

For me, the singing in the original is far superior. I really missed Sister singing Giving Up in the remake.

The singing in the original is terribly overrated. Lonette McKee and Irene Cara both have sweet but weak voices. In this version Sister's singing isn't impressive either. Jordin was greatly underused in this version. You didn't hear her sing until the end.

I thought Lonette, Dwan, and Irene had a beautiful harmony that Carmen, Jordin, and Tika lacked. The singing in the original was also much more soulful. Jordin does have a powerhouse voice, but that threw the singing off with the group because their voices couldn't hold a candle to hers.

For me the original was better because they actually had real stage performances. The girls' performances in the new Sparkle was poorly staged and they didn't really look as professional. The sisters in the original actually looked like a girl group performing on stage. As far as voices, I'm not sure who's better. And Irene Cara doesn't have a weak voice. Lonette does though but she nailed her songs and she lit up the stage with her soulful sultry style.

Lonette's voice will fool you. I think in Sparkle, she tuned it to what the performance required. If you ever hear her sing Cool Winds in the movie Cotton Club, you'll be amazed at the strength and claritiy combined with soulfulness she can deliver.

its not bad its just doesnt seem to be as strong or heavy as the songs of the old one.

i definitely preferred the old one.

I was waiting for a great, show stopping number from the girls as a group and we never got it. Jordin was terrific in her solo at the end, but there was nothing about them performing together that would make you believe that they were in demand.

Jordin Sparks is a far better singer than Irene Cara, but Lonette McKee was a better singer (without benefit of extensive pitch correction) than Carmen Ejogo.
