Anyone else a little disappointed (spoilers)

After much excitement and watching the marathon of movies I was a little disappointed.

Cassandra seemed to have moved away from the bed & breakfast and her store where she seemed to bring insight and advice to those who came through the door. A political career...really? That seemed so not in character for Cassandra!

Except for her 'thinking room', the new house had no energy it was your average home. No sunlight coming through the house and any light was electrical.

There was no reference made of grandpa? Where was he? Even something as simple as "he was busy with the bed & breakfast" would have satisfied viewers I think!

The story with her cousin was plausible and did add some conflict and challenges for the family but with the internet being readily available, she never thought to find out what became of her relatives before starting on her vindictive path?

I will continue to watch these as they come out but I was a little disappointed by TGWF and would watch The Good Witch and The Good Witch's Gift many more times than this one.

Keep them coming...I look forward to 'The Good Witch's Baby'!

I totally agree! The house was nice, but I liked "grey house" much more. Her thinking room seemed a bit witch-ier then any of her previous decor so I found it a bit odd. Really the whole town seemed to have a different look/energy-maybe they filmed it somewhere else.

You are right on the grandfather too. They could have just handled that like the deputy's girlfriend "oh she moved away" or whatever. He had a pretty large role in the first three movies to just vanish.

It does seem that the cousin could have easily learned of the death of Cassie's parents. Couldn't she also have discovered Cassie's age? IIRC, after learning of the death of C's parents, she said something like "why didn't you help then"--it seems she would have known Cassie was a child too.

Agree on the political ambitions-I was surprised she didn't suggest Martha as it seems right up her ally. Then the chief gets fired and they react almost like "oh well" which seemed odd.

And, it is a little thing-but a fair portion of the story was on the son's preparation of a college application. So did he send it in? get accepted? who knows, that was just dropped near the end.

Overall, I thought it almost just had too much going on for a 2-hour movie. But, like you, I really enjoyed the first three and I'm sure I'll watch others as they come out, I just doubt I'll re-watch this one as often.

Agree. I didn't think this movie had the good feel of the last 3. Not that it was horrible. It wasn't. Seemed a little of the "magic" was gone. I hope they get it back in the next installment.

I missed Grey House, Grandpa and the Shop, too.

That little something special was missing but I am still a big fan of The Good Witch movies! I certainly look forward to the magic being recaptured in a next installment. Some of it just didn't feel like Cassie yet, it didn't feel like something she would grow into either - Mayor - in a way, yes but mostly I just wasn't feeling it.

p.s. I loved that she had her special room in their family home, but even then, the room seemed over done for Cassie - I like Cassie's subtle magic and aura.

Ditto what others have said in this thread! Something magical missing?

Certainly good to watch and will if there are any more, but not the same grade as the first three episodes!

reply

It was sweet but yes I was a little disappointed. Maybe 2012 will be a little more magical!

Disappointed because Grandpa wasn't on there or even mentioned. Disappointed because Grey House wasn't on there or even mentioned. I wasn't happy when they said in the last one that Cassie would be moving to Jake's house instead of them living in Grey House; but then I was disappointed that they weren't even living in Jake's house from the other movies. I would have preferred that over the house they are living in now. I also didn't like it that the Cassie's shop even looked different.

Small point but they did mention the grandfather. Right in the beginning.

reply

Val--not to dispute you--but what did they say?? I clearly missed it...

tropixanne - something to the effect that grand dad is now gone.....

Sorry I can't do better than that.

Ok, thanks, I'll try to catch in on a replay (which I think I can safely guess there will be quite a few of :).

reply

You're welcome! Can't wait to catch it again on replay!

Yes. Very disappointing. I reiterate the same points as others above about Grandpa and his girlfriend, Grey House, Gwen (I think that was her name) from the bakery, and what was up with the new house? I'm just hoping they make another one so the series doesn't have to end like this.

so that's what look different, i thought her shop looked funny until i figured they were supposedly behind the violet drape from previous films
dunno about the house but yeah their bedroom was blah should have had more of a cassie homeyness to it,and her parlor was just too much necromancer/genie in a bottle type-ish and agree when he got fired they well eh was way too calm about it, not that i mind at least he wasnt been grumpy and moody on everyone but a little more concern would have been nice!
i think this movie would have benefited from the lesson cassie had to remember don't stretch yourself out so much that you forget your family and their happiness is and should always be your priority and our family well the producers/writers etc also is this beautiful cosy film series that is just like middleton please refocus and don't let developpers come in with their bridge to build big ugly malls, keep main street alive!

I was wrong!

The gist of the conversation was that grand dad was on the family tree. Nothing more.

Add me to the list. I missed Grey House, Grandpa, her cat, the charm of the little shop, and the bakery lady. The new house just seemed coldly decorated and looked thrown together instead of filled with the charm that Cassie would bring to making a family home. For example, their bedroom was so boring. I would expect something way more romantic from her LOL. Also, her sitting room looked like something for a teenager and not an adult. Same with the new shop, it just looked commercial, boring shelves everywhere, instead of something special.

If Granpda couldn't be in the movie they could've just said he was touring Ireland on a long honeymoon with his lady friend or off somewhere else visiting her family. I think that would've satisfied fans enough for the time being.

I didn't mind the mayor/campaign storyline so much but I think the movie would've been better if it was more about the mayor's wife leaving her husband and temporarily living with Cassie & family and then Cassie trying to reunite her with the husband. There's room in a storyling like that for comedy and drama. There was just too much going on with the cousin, campaign, kids, mayor's wife, etc. I know the other movies have had a lot going on, but they just seemed to work the storylines together better.

I still look forward to the next movie if they make one. Even though this one was slightly disappointing it's still better than most of the stuff on tv these days.

I took some time to get into this one. But by the end, I was enjoying it. I wonder if Cassie wouldn't use the Internet as it might interfere with her sensitivity and the peaceful vibrations of her home area. I didn't check to see if there is a computer in their home. But no doubt the teenagers wouldn't be able to live without one.

The only other movie in the series that I have seen to date is 'Gift' (the Christmas one). I have to say that I slightly prefer this 'Family' one. It was titled 'Good Witch, Bad Witch' on the TV channel I watched it on. So I had to search for this one on IMDb to make sure I was coming on to the right message board.
